Hi Izzy,

My advice is not to focus on restrictive dieting but focus on consistently taking steps to make healthy changes for the long term. And just to say - best of luck!

My tips would be to set realistic, short term goals, and to make use of all this fabulous forum has to offer :)

Hi Izzy,

You have lots and lots and lots of things to gain

Health, happiness, fitness, wellness, vigour, vitality, energy, vibrance, flat abs, toned body, good skin, good hair, bright eyes, admiration from others, self confidence... and a million other things.

So my tip for you is - Focus more on what you need to gain, and less on lose stuff.

Usually in weight loss process, many tend to look as weight as some kind of ball, that will drop off somewhere on the road automatically and magically.

The weight is a part of you, accept it. Next is tell the weight, "Thank you, its time for you go!! I am getting fitter and better."

All the best for your journey!! :)

Dear Izzy18,

We're all different in what works best for us but for me I've always thought long term and made lots of little, positive changes that I tell myself I can keep going for the rest of my life and which don't seem too much of a jolt when I do them. Others have gone "cold turkey" and changed their ways almost overnight. There's no right or wrong - try things out and don't get upset if you have a slip up along the way.

Things that have really helped me are: cutting added sugar out of my life (drastic but I was addicted to the stuff)

Intermittent fasting (I only eat between 12 noon and 8 pm (again, not for everyone; it just suits me)

Finding exercise I love rather than doing it as a chore - worth trying lots of things out. I love dancing and walking and occasionally go to the gym when it's wet outside.

This forum - the support and encouragement has made such a tremendous difference.

Staying positive - always be kind to yourself and think well of yourself and your body. This positive attitude was very difficult for me, but it has helped.

Good Luck and I hope you'll keep posting x
