Welcome! And - in case you hadn’t noticed - you have started! Simple tips - work out, with the nhs bmi calculator what your bmi is and how many calories you can have and still lose weight - there will be a range so start at the top end so you have somewhere to go to later. Think about it as a process of re-education - portion control, interesting food, not low fat as these will often be full of sugar! Set targets that are realistic - the old SMART mantra (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, timely I think!) and then on top of that - engage with this wonderful Community. Soon one of our fabulous admins will pop along with a welcome newsletter full of useful links to info and advice. Pick a regular day to weigh in - no hair shirts or blame here!
many thanks for your quick response, i know what i need to do in loosing the weight but i always start, lose a few lbs ans stop! This time though i really want to stick by it and get healthy for myself esp seeing i have 2 young children....my BMI is 32 (obese) so i know i have alot if weight 2 loose in order to be at my target weight! Its no fun being overweight and ive only my lazyness to blame! Its as u say reeducating yourself and getting as active as possible! Wish me luck 🤞
A lot of us turn up here thinking we know how to lose weight, including myself... funny how we never have or it's never been permanent
For me, coming here has been a complete eye-opener. Hopefully you have got it all down pat but just to be sure, (if you haven't already) go through the NHS 12 week plan with a fine tooth comb
You're going to be setting a great example for your kids.
Not laziness but being busy, having young chidren, managing a home. Somehow we seem to put everyone else’s needs first and then grab a sandwich, pastie whatever rather than think about ourselves. And having little ones is temptation to clear their plates for them too!
Take each day as it comes and don’t beat yourself up if things don’t go entirely to plan - we are all here together wearing that T-shirt!
I'd like to invite you to join our Newbie Club, which we hope will be a good place for you to connect with members, who are also just starting out. If you just post a few words to introduce yourself and respond to others there, you'll soon break the ice. Here's the link
You'll find all the information you need to navigate the forum in the header, so please take the time to read it carefully.
Wishing you all the best
I’ve got no tips for managing to stick to it, because I think everyone falls off the wagon now and then. My tip is just to keep getting back on that wagon, however often you fall off to start with, and eventually good practice becomes a habit. Keep keeping on!
Thanks for replying! I know i have 2 stick to it not just for myself but for my kids and i dont want to be this way forever....i think the recent xmas pics showed me just how overweight i am, even if i lose a few lbs each week gradually, slowly and steadily ill b happy! I just nees to be deterimed, prepared (meal prep etc) and find time 2 do some sort of exercise! (i did it once so im hoping i can do it again and keep it off) Thanks again.
You've already got a lot of helpful ideas, plus the links from moreless that will help you find your way around this forum. You sound a busy woman (understatement!) but I hope you'll make time for yourself to get involved here, as it really does pay off in mutual encouragement, through the good times and the blips.
Re exercise at home (and there are a few around here who would raise an eyebrow at me commenting on exercise), someone here put me on to Leslie Sansone's YouTube workouts. Have a look at them and see if they are any use.
Also if you do fall off the wagon don't dwell on it, forget about it and get back on track. I know if I beat myself up about it I comfort eat. Good luck, stay strong, you can do this 😉
