Needing to lose weight quickly

Hello everyone, I am new to the board.

I am trying to lose some weight fairly quickly as have to have an op on my spine. Exercise is quite difficult as have 2 artificial knees and one artificial hip, also had breast cancer a couple of years ago. Am on tamoxifen whose sole aim seems to be to help you gain weight.

My spinal problem means standing and walking is very painful.

I know quick weight loss is not the correct way but would appreciate any help and tips you can give.

Congratulations to all of you who have done so well

Hi Kay. Welcome!

How much do you need to lose and over what period of time?

Is there any excersise you can do and enjoy?

Hi, I like swimming but back problems mean it's more of a bob than a swim! I am waiting for an op date and trying to lose as much as poss to make recovery easier. I have a good few stone to lose to get to ideal weight but it seems like a losing battle, not helped by the tamoxifen. Oncologist is happy that I don't gain, which dieting does do, but losing seems such a job!

😀 try not to put yourself under too much pressure to lose weight quickly. You've been through a lot and your body could be still recovering from all that stress.

Aim to not gain and take any loss as a win. There is a link which someone will point you at soon that might help but in the meantime read through the threads and join in.

Welcome!

Hi Kay

Going low carb is probably the quickest way to lose weight, but it can make you feel as though you have 'flu. Google 'ketosis' and how to deal with "low carb flu" if you're interested.

Good luck with the weight loss and operation.

Thank you 😃

"How to lose weight well" was on last night and was quite interesting, covering a range of diets and showing you the results in the one programme - there are 2 more in the series, so these programmes might be useful as a starting point. (channel4.com/programmes/how...

I am currently finding the low carb high fat diet to be interesting - it goes against everything I have ever been taught about dieting (I started being dieted as a 6 stone 6 years old and this was so effective that I put on a stone every year till I was 13, then over the years my weight crept up to eventually reaching about 19 1/2 stone). I spent a year exercising and trying to be "good" on the dieting front and lost a stone over the year 2014, but stuck at 18 1/2 stone till halfway through last year when I kickstarted myself with Couch to 5K running programme and started properly calorie counting. However towards the end of the year I just shimmied between 17 and 17 1/2 stone, up and down, never quite breaking that 17 stone barrier. A lot of my problems were evenings when I would have had my dinner and then watch my husband eating crisps and sweets and biscuits, and I would get jealous, or I was alone and a bit bored and restless and would end up picking at things for no good reason.

Low carb high fat seems to have completely solved that problem. You only eat when you are hungry and I seem to only want 2 meals a day at the moment and have absolutely no urge to pick. I am also eating between 10am and 8pm, a partial fasting. This week I am finally going to break that 17 stone barrier, and this style of dieting seems pretty sustainable to me. You can find details of this at dietdoctor.com/.

Good luck with your journey - I hope this is of some help to you. Let us know how you get on.
