Sugar reaction ?

Hi, I would appreciate any advice/information on the following. I have been on Michael Mosely's blood sugar diet for four weeks, although I'm not diabetic or even pre diabetic, and its been working well and been pretty easy. I've lost 3kg. As you'll know it's just protein, veg, some fruit and dairy, oils, nuts and a nice glass of red wine ! Anyway, a couple of times when I've cheated and tried to have a pudding on a night out it has made me terribly ill. It looks like I now can't tolerate sugar at all ! I guess this may be no bad thing but is it possible to become completely intolerant of sugar so quickly and so comprehensively ? Or is it something else going on ?

Hi carolen I am afraid I don't have an answer to your question, none of us on here are medically trained, but maybe your body has got so used to not having sugar it is reacting when you do :O

If you are having wine, and why not, that contains sugar. Perhaps introduce a little carbohydrate, say 1 slice of bread, and see how you feel.

I become extremely ill after eating sugar at the beginning of the year, got hives and face swelling too....turned out after blood tests I had overactive thyroid, now my levels are better I can eat it but not in excess.

Thanks everyone, interesting. I also have thyroid problems, maybe it is to do with that.

Maybe worth getting blood tests if you haven’t in case it’s changed. Good luck xx

I'd definitely get the thyroid checked again.

Another thing to look at could be how rich the pudding was. After eating what I call light foods, having a stodgy rich pudding could be too much for your digestive system. A lighter pudding may not react so much.

Not what you're looking for?
