Newbie!! hey...

Hi all,

I didn't know the NHS has a group like this so am really excited to sign up.

I really would like to lose weight (2st) as its been creeping for the past few months and piling on in the last few weeks. But my main goal is just to be healthier in general. I must have had at least 20 chocolate bars, 2 bags of haribo and i don't remember what else since Monday and I'm feeling totally disgusting so just want to start Saturday afresh and be healthier.

That's my so intro so yeah...hi!

hey there chazz and welcome to us. you will love this forum as we are all very supportive and have some great ideas. also some good recipes. first I think you should stop feeling disgusted as it is just something you did and not who you are. it is very hard to forgive yourself for eating too much or the wrong things, but this is the first thing you must do I think, to start a new life. remember, you did not gain the weight in one day so you will not lose it in one day either. also the occasional chocolate bar is not going to kill you although the haribo might lol. just joking. anyway also know this is a new way of life and not a diet. this is very important to remember. if you constantly think "diet" you may not go as far as you would like in your weight lose goals. I also think you should pick one thing at a time to change and you will see the weight begin to go. drink lots of water and slack off on the sugar is what I started to do first and I am losing about 2 pounds a week. which I know is not much but I hear losing slowly will help you keep it off longer. anyway, good luck, keep posting and reading and keep your chin up! we are all here to help. if you have a bad day, post in daily diary or what's happening and we will help you chin up! good luck doll!

Agree with all great advice above. I will just to add a couple of suggestions. For a couple of days write everything down that you eat. Work out your triggers and fill the house with fruit. For me sugar is a drug, I cannot eat a small piece of chocolate I have to eat the whole bar and then look for the next one in pack but if I don't start I am ok. Good luck you can do it and as you say it is your health that you are doing it for.

That's my trouble too, rossie1942. once I start something, I don't have a stop button. I had to tackle this first with alcohol a year ago, and since coming here in the past 4 weeks, I've been applying it to desserts, sweets, ice cream - all those things I enjoy but can't seem to have in moderation. I live by myself, so I can't blame anyone else if there's something dodgy in the house!

I've found that planning my meals (not as carefully as some) and shopping accordingly has kept me from "just popping to the shop" for a key ingredient and coming out with a bar of chocolate or couple of cheesecakes as well. I've also found some biscuits I like and am happy with just one (46 cals). And I get a couple of cans of G&T or mojito to have at the weekend, watching Strictly ;) We all have to find our own way and keep an eye on the main goal.

Try very dark chocolate at least 75 - 85% cocoa. I find 2 or 3 squares satisfies. I don't get the urge to binge like I did with milk chocolate.

I havd some most evenings, lost the weight and kept it off. Can be done 😊
