Hi I am new and would love to hear from anyone about healthy eating tips and motivation for exercise.

I have been overweight for many years and crave sugary and fatty foods. I would like to be slim and healthy. I would really like to hear from anyone and support people too

Hello and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum Janechic 😊

You are not alone in craving sugary and fatty foods Jane, our brains are programmed to make us want calorie dense foods, but you are stronger than your brain. Having enough to eat and avoiding hunger is very helpful, so check your calorie target on the nhs BMI checker 😊

I'd like to invite you to join our Newbie Club, which we hope will be a good place for you to connect with members, who are also just starting out. If you just post a few words to introduce yourself and respond to others there, you'll soon break the ice. Here's the link

You'll find all the information you need to navigate the forum in the header and a link to the 12 week plan, so please take the time to read it carefully.

Wishing you all the best

Hi Jane.

I'm a newbie to this forum but not to losing weight, I've lost nearly 4 stone in the last 19 months.

I think it's important to remember you are in this for the long haul. You are human and there will be times when you slip, remember when this happens you are human. I gained 3lb last week after a weeks holiday, I realised that this wasn't a failure on my part, and that naturally slim people have weight gains after a holiday, I was normal.

Regarding the sweet tooth, find something you like that hits the button, I love desserts, so now I make sure I have one, but a healthy one, Eton mess made with yogurt not cream. Rice pudding made with skimmed milk and sweetener. A measured scoop of ice cream. It's all about control.

I've only just started exercising, even then it's a walking thing on you tube.

Most importantly, believe in yourself.

You can do this. Xx

Hi Julia

Thank you so much for your reply. It's wonderful that you have lost 4 stone well done. Yes I am in it for the long haul and you are very right, we are human and I will forget the slip ups and concentrate on the positive healthy eating and small desert portions. I want to make deserts like you suggested as it's much better and healthier. I like walking and today I started yoga from you tube and it helps me relax and have a positive mental attitude.

Your success and kind help has inspired me. Thank you so much once again.

Xx

Hi janechic I'm a newbie as well, I just crave food, don't care what it is, so can't help you there.

My tip for exercise is find what is your thing, there is so much out there. I've tried all sorts and suck at running, suck at aerobics, only walk if it involves my dogs. What I have finally worked out is I love weight lifting, so much so I do it 3 times a week, no other exercise has ever made me want to go, but this does, and I have for 2 years. So you just need to find your thing. You might be a runner, a kettle bell fan, a spinner, a tai chi practicer, a passionate pilates practicer, footballer, skater.... the choices are endless, just find your passion and you will naturally want to do it. Find free taster sessions and find your thing. Good luck in your journey.

Hi SirEb thank you very much for your reply. I really appreciate your help and advice. I have looked up ice skating classes near me and done yoga from you tube this morning. You have inspired me thank you. I am happy you enjoy weight lifting and hope to find my thing too. I really enjoy dancing but felt self conscious because of my weight. There is so much out there can't wait to start thank you kindly again

Oops these things get sent too soon! Hello Jane chic... if you like dancing and feel self-conscious then start by doing it at home. Then as you watch and feel the weight drop off ( in combination of course with your new eating habits!) you may feel happy about joining a class. I've lost three and a half stone since March and stepped up my walking but sometimes just didn't want to go prowling the streets so used a Lesley Sansone dvd and on YouTube at home. It really got me going. So easy - no special clothing or equipment - and I could do it in my own time.

As a previous poster has said find what does it for you and also vary it slightly if you start getting bored. You wont feel self-conscious. You'll feel great! Especially dancing - the music will lift you spirits too. Just don't wear your carpet or floor boards out!

As for eating- whichever route or plan you use I found that writing EVERYTHING down daily and being really honest with myself (whatever or how much I'd eaten) really helped and still does while I maintain my loss. I know a day will come when I can lighten up but hopefully by then the bad habits have changed for good. Wishing you all the best for a good experience. 💕
