It's a Judgement

..by my body!

I went a bit overboard at the weekend, eating (and drinking!) far more than I should. Result, today is gout :(

I can barely walk! This is my body telling me (again!) that too much of a good thing has consequences. All the time I've been eating sensibly and keeping the alcohol intake low I've had no problems. You'd have thought I would learn.......

Sorry to hear that, docmar, as I've heard it's excruciatingly painful, but it's a salutary reminder and I expect you'll learn from it.

I hope that you're feeling much better, very soon and are able to stay aboard the wagon :)

Oh the dangers of getting smug! Yes, I know what I have to do and what I should have done. A high protein diet is definitely not for me any more :(

More water and less wine :(

Now all I have to do is stick to it....

You can do it! Have faith in yourself :)

Sorry to hear about the gout, hope it eases real soon

Have to ask - why is a high protein diet not for you anymore?

Protein contains nitrogen and can lead to high levels of uric acid - it's uric acid crystallising in joints that makes gout so painful.

Thanks for the explanation :)

Ouch poor you I hope you get rid of the pain soon. Maybe this time will be the last time........

I doubt it, but the idea is to minimise the recurrence, and the best thing for that is to lose weight gradually and not go mad on meat! Which is a shame because I love meat and fish. Apparently vegetable protein doesn't appear to have the same effect, although I'm sceptical on that point. Oh yes, alcohol's a trigger too so more reinforcement on minimising that (sigh) :(

Today, my foot is just very sore as opposed to not being able to put any weight on it at all, so hopefully I'm on the mend.

Thank you for the sympathy, I appreciate it - from everyone!

It might be that I'm eating less sugar and fat or that I've super upped my consumption of fruit....
