Hi Wayne and welcome.

Congrats on your recovery that's really good going. I stopped drinking this year, almost by accident, when I was trying to cut down on my calorie intake.

An administrator will reply later with a more in depth response. In the meantime, you may want to checkout the NHS 12 week plan which many people here are following. You can find it (from a computer) by clicking on 'Home' and it's on the right hand side as you scroll down or scrolling to the bottom if using a mobile.

All the best

Good job on not drinking. Something I need to do. I'm proud of you!

Hi and welcome Halliwell well done on no alcohol for 2 years that is fantastic :)

I would like to invite you to join our Newbie Club, which we hope will be a good place for you to connect with members, who are also just starting out, or re-starting.

If you just post a few words on the October Newbie Club thread to introduce yourself and respond to others there you will soon feel part of the club.

Follow this link to the Newbie club: healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Please read all the information carefully, it is very useful and can be referred to whenever you want to check something.

It just remains for me to wish you well on your journey

:)

Welcome to the forum - did the nurse direct you to the British Dietician Association- not sure if you live in the UK or not. They have produced food fact sheets on various subjects and one of them is lowering cholesterol through diet? bda.uk.com/foodfacts/choles... and bda.uk.com/foodfacts/PlantS...

it covers weight loss, medical conditions such as depression, diabetes etc you may find it useful- apologies if you have already been given this info. My cholesterol was borderline high, but GP won't recheck it however my body fat has gone down by 1.5-2% so I am hoping that means my cholesterol has.

Good luck with the weight loss and reducing the cholesterol and congratulations on changing your life around re:alcohol

Hi - The only advice I can offer is from personal experience. If my experience is anything to go by. Avoid setting up a mindset you are on a diet, this to me preconditions yourself to believe that the situation or state of being on "a diet" is a temporary situation and at some time the 'pain' of restricting yourself from eating what you, and looking forward to this time eagerly is as painful as child waiting for Christmas. In truth eating what you want in the volumes you want should be the very temporary situations e.g. special occasions, not your lifestyle.

Recently I lost a stone in weight but I didn't go on a diet, I had changed my mindset to reflect that fact that if I eat food (energy fuel) in excess of what i wont (or don't) turn into work effort during the day moving around and going to the shops etc. there is nothing surer than I will store the excess energy from the food as fat around my body which my body expects to store until I need to sue it. The problem being, because i have a nice warm comfortable life, I never need it and the excess fat around my body stays there and it makes me insecure, unhappy and dissatisfied with my own self for not having the self discipline and fibre courage to prevent myself from getting to that weight or doing something about it to reverse the situation.

I didn't go on a diet to loose a stone, I decided to change my lifestyle and my mind is now set to eat and drink only what I need (otherwise its greed) and to recognise because i have as sedentary lifestyle if i don't I will be miserable until such times as i shed this mortal coil, which is too big a sacrifice to make for a few biscuits and snacks at any time of the day I please.

I am not on a diet, i wont be going on a diet, and I am not waiting and wanting every day looking to arrive at the minute when magically the scales will tell me i can resume what i was doing before. So i just got on with it and now this is my lifestyle, my clothes fit me better, i like myself a bit better a minute bit more every day, but i know its not a diet, its a change of lifestyle.
