Hi everyone I'm new to this but after many years of dieting thought I had cracked it after being 15 years slim. All of a sudden turning 69 over the last year have put on over a stone don't know why haven't done anything different. I haven't ate or drank anymore than usual all I can put it down to is old age spread. Any suggestions thanks Lily

Hi and welcome, Romally
Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news
Take a look at the 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate
We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too
It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey
Hello and welcome Romally47 😊
I read somewhere that our BMI does reduce with age hence your inexplicable weight gain 😕
Have a look at the links Moreless suggested and ask if you have any questions 😊
Best wishes
Anna
We fellow "seniors" can sympathise. Our bodies need less calories as we age, also we lose muscle mass as we age ( depressing isn't it?) BUT it is definitely possible to counteract this gain with a healthy diet, moderate exercise, less calories.
I had the same problem, gained weight because through my fifties I carried on "eating the same" until suddenly I was 62 and 2 stone overweight .
Try using the NHS online BMI calculator ,put in your current age to see how many calories your body needs for your age , then out of interest , do the same with an age 15 years younger.... see how calorie needs have reduced with age. Then I'm afraid it means cutting back the calories by eating differently, smaller portions and exercise..,preferably a mix of all three.
Lots of us oldies on here to cheer you on . I lost my 2st two years ago and have kept it off , nearly 65.
Good luck, lots of help on here.
Hi thanks for the advice . I certainly will try everything you've said. I've always ate a good balanced diet and go to the gym twice a week I'm out everyday so you can imagine how depressing it is after all these years to put weight on. However I've only put one stone on. So best to try now before more weight goes on. Thanks for your help il let you know how it goes. Cheers.
