Hi I'm 37 I'm obese I have sciatica, depression and anxiety, I struggle everyday with trying to loose weight. (I say this after coming home from doctors today and eating 2 mini lion bars) my doctor recommended looking online for healthier eating, after we spoke about me getting referred for a gastric band, i came across this sight tho. I am also on thyroxine tablets, so hopefully this will help with my weight also.

Hi Annmarie_B welcome to this fab forum 😊 We are all on the same journey here just at different points. The start can seem very daunting but honestly everyone here will support you along the way! Wishing you luck
Hi Annmarie_B . I am on thyroxin and last year I was out of action for six months with excruciating sciatica, so I understand how you are feeling. But let me reassure you, you can turn things around. Firstly, if you are on the correct level of thyroxin, then your thyroid is effectively functioning perfectly and does not affect your weight. Secondly, if I were you, I would see a good physiotherapist. Four months of quite intensive physio last year and I was just about sorted. Since then I have done Pilates weekly to make sure I never end up like that again.
And in the meantime, I have counted calories, gone cold turkey with sweet things, fallen off the wagon now and then, and gradually, oh so gradually, I am nearly at my weight loss goal.
There’s no quick fix, AnneMarie, and cold turkey can be no joke, but if you really want this, you can do it with our support. 👍😊👍
Hi and welcome Annmarie_B this is such a supportive forum I'm sure you will make progress coming on here regularly. I am on my 5th week now and every time I come on here I feel inspired to keep going and to try and help others keep going too as well as celebrating the good bits! I suffered with sciatica last year and had some physio thankfully it eventually went but this year I have had achilles tendonitis to slow me down, that is also receeding now so I am hoping to increase my walking and try to get on the exercise bike more often! i have suffered with depression and anxiety most of my adult life am now 57 sometime I find it easier to cope with than others, I started using the Headspace app in August and it has really had a positive effect on my thoughts and I am starting to feel a bit more confident and not so much like there is a big black cloud on my head - quite a breakthrough - you might like to try it too. Anyway I wish you lots of luck on your journey
we are here to support you! and us. Hi Annmarie_B and good luck with this plan. it works if you work it. one change at a time. first thing I recommend is to stop beating yourself up, forgive yourself for what you think you are and join us. I am bipolar and depressed so I know how bad a person can beat themselves up for imagined wrongs. if you eat something you feel like you should not have, ok. it is done. now go for something heathy or go for a walk but forgive yourself most of all. I have tried and am working on forgiving myself for having gained 20 pounds in the last 3 months putting me at a weight of 262 pounds. I am near my all time high of 268 pounds and I was feeling pretty terrible till I came here. I have lost 6 pounds so far and I am feeling better everyday and so will you I promise. this is a good place full of people who have been and are where you are today and we can help you so chin up! and welcome
Hia Annmarie

SECONDLY, don't give up
THIRDLY, be patient for results to come
Welcome on board. I've put on 2 stone which might not be as much as other people but it's all relative and it doesn't matter about other people, just compare yourself to YOU and the best that YOU CAN BE. Focus on you and your goals not other people's goals.
After my operation a year and half ago my weight increased and my mind and soul felt so low as my back and knee pain increased too and got depressed and avoided going out and felt guilty for not sticking to all my diets that I ended up binging!
Well now I literally locked myself away for a few days and created a plan. Food Plan, Exercise Plan and didn't weigh myself AT ALL; as that was depressing.
So started 'COUCH TO 5K' and also the Keto diet. Threw away junk form the kitchen and created a weekly menu and only shopped for that. I cook for kids separately and keep in fridge for 2 days and try and cook stuff I don't like, lol so not tempted to nibble.
So that is what is working for me. I don't eat with the family so I'm not tempted and will stick to this for 2 months.
Just take steps that work for you (have a bottle of water on the table all the time and always have 4 sips whenever you are around and that curbs your appetite a little and the water will help your health).
Make a plan and start on it slowly; regarding exercise all you have to do is walk 40 minutes a day. Have a weekly schedule and that way it's like going to work.. you have to do it.
Good luck!
One day at a time....
