Hello I am a new participant. I am 80 years of age and an insulin dependent diabetic.
I have been following a lo carb diet for the past year. It does help my blood sugar control but I find it is a very restrictive and expensive diet and I find myself getting more and more bored .' Following on to a knee replacement and steroid injections I have gained approximately 7 kilo in weight over the past year . I would dearly like to lose this weight but do not know if thats possible due to my diabetes and total lack of exercise these days. Do any other members have my health problems but find this eating plan has definitely helped?

You may consider talking with an expert, I'm not an expert although to make your diet more interesting I could recommend eating carbohydrates on low-carb diet in the evening, instead of the morning. In the morning is when your insulin level is the lowest and after giving your body enough carbohydrates it spikes quite a lot and it is kept on pretty much high level for the rest of the day, so if you want to give your "mind" some rest from only low-carb diet I would recommend to add those carbs in the evening and if possible after some work out - as you are 80 years old even walking the dog for 20-30 minutes may turn out to be helpful as a workout before consuming some carbs.

I'm just a few years younger than you. I lost the weight I wanted to by virtue of counting calories. Personally I cut nothing out as I knew to do so for me would be a recipe for failure. I have mobility and breathing issues so like you am unable to exercise much. I hope you find a path which suits you.👍
Yes. I lost about one stone so far. It works. Just keep going and give it your all.
I am 66 years old and I have very limited mobility. At the moment I am calorie counting and have also found a website - seniorexercisesonline.com which as it says is for "seniors" and shows gentle exercising for both standing and sitting. I have found this a great help and along with the calorie counting and great advice and encouragement from this forum, I have lost 7lbs in 4 weeks which I am so pleased with.
Wishing you all the very best, one step at a time.
