Hi, this is my first week of the 12 week program, I'm cross with myself that I have let myself put on so much weight, I am a classic yo-yo dieter (I am 6 stone overweight- that's the first time I have ever written that!) and fed up of all the ailments that being so overweight brings, I have lost confidence and have no energy. I guess being obese has become my new reality. I am 48 years and really want to lose a lot of this weight before I am 50 years. I have joined this site to find people in the same position as me to offer and hopefully receive support πx

Hi and welcome, Victoria
Don't be so hard on yourself, many of us have been in the same position, which is what led us here
I'd like to invite you to join our Newbie Club, which we hope will be a good place for you to connect with members, who are also just starting out. If you just post a few words to introduce yourself and respond to others there, you'll soon break the ice. Here's the link

Hello and welcome Victoria π
Hi Victoria, I too was 6 stone overweight when I joined this wonderful forum 12 weeks ago age 60 after 30 odd years of trying every diet going. I have just completed the NHS 12 Week Healthy Eating Plan and I am now 17lbs lighter. Don't be hard on yourself, this is the last time you will see that number. It will take a while to change- I still don't do enough exercise- just make small changes, opt for healthy foods and set yourself small goals ie: 7lbs at a time. Also take your measurements as some times you may not lose on the scales but your shape will have changed. We are all on this journey together and some of us may take the scenic route but we'll get there in the end. Wishing you we'll.π€π
Congrats Kazzi on completing those 12 weeks and with your weight loss to date. Great going.
Thanks Tiggerr. I felt just like Victoria a few weeks ago but now I am feeling really positive, confidence is returning and I am excited for the future. It's stories like yours - I read your earlier post- and all the wonderful tips, support and inspiration from our fellow forum members that helps us on this great journey.π
Hi Kazzi56, thank you so much for your reply! 17lbs is great! Well done! The small goal idea is a really good idea, before I have just been too overwhelmed by the total amount of weight I need to lose, so my first goal now is to lose half a stone! π
You're more than welcome. Follow the welcome introduction from Moreless one of our wonderful administrators, and you will see lots of advice to navigate the site. I'll be looking out for your shiny 7lb badge. Good luck.π
Hi Victoria and welcome. Well done on having the courage to write down the weight you wish to lose.
You'll find lots of supportive people here. Not just those in the same starting off point as you but others at various stages of weight loss and those that have 'made it'. They can all have something different and helpful to add.
It's terrible when we lose confidence, it just seems that there's no way of getting it back... but it will return. Start off slowly, don't try and change your world in one go but by taking small steady steps (changing a bit at a time).
It's about creating a new lifestyle, one that you're happy with. Stick to it for a few weeks, lose a few lbs and see how your confidence will start to increase.
All the best.
Hi victoria1969 , you n are in good company!
You are more or less the same age as I was when I decided that "enough is enough!". I too had been overweight and a serial dieter all of my adult life....
I started my weight loss journey at 14 stone - 5 and a half years ago. I was 49 years old and had been trying to lose weight all of my life since the age of 9.
I started my journey at the end of February 2012, and managed to lose 4.5 stone in 2 and a half years through calorie counting and logging/weighing all of my food.
Then re-gained some, lost some again and have now managed to more or less maintain for the past 6 months.
BUT... ideally I would love to drop another stone and maintain there.
I have a disability which makes exercise difficult, but the one thing that I realise very early on in my journey was that I was just eating FAR TOO MUCH! I was a short, middle aged, sedentary female and I was eating the same as 5ft 9" active man (my now husband!).
No wonder I was piling on the weight!
Thankfully though, I was (and am) in good health - I wanted to keep it that way!
Here are a few of my past posts which I hope you will find helpful and inspiring. I won't try and tell you that my journey was easy - and you'll see that there were many blips along the way, but 5 years down the line, I feel about 20 years younger than I did when I was lugging around 4 stone more.
Please do pop back to the forums and share your journey with us - we are here for you, day and night and happy to share your success or support you when you need it.

Hi Pineapple27, thank you for your reply, I am going to read all the posts you have sent links for! Well done for losing 4.5 stone that's amazing! I know I eat far too much too! It's not until you start counting calories you realise how much you were eating before! π
Logging and keeping track of my food was a kind of epiphany! For too long, I had been ignoring my portion sizes - and yes, my meals were fairly healthy (I love cooking) BUT I am very short (4ft 9") and sedentary because of disability.... I wasn't burning the calories I was eating!
Once I "balanced the books" and cut down on calories, the weight started to come off - not fast enough (it never is!) BUT the advantage of it taking a few years is that all the time I was educating myself about the nutritional values of food, trying out new recipes, making health substitutes and most importantly changing my behaviour around food (just because it's there in front of you, doesn't say you need to eat it!)
Hi !!!. You are at the right place I have learned from here only weigh myself once a week for your weigh in here. I eat a lot of vegetables. And exercise. The hardest thing for me to understand is that losing one pound per week or pound and a half. Slow and steady wins the race. My goal is to have my 90 pounds off this time next year. We can do this!!!!!!!!!!
