Hello All. This is my first day with your group and I'm keen to go! My name is Sue and I'm 69 and retired. Many moons ago I used to be an accounts clerk and in my latter years worked as a legal secretary. I am following the NHS 12 week plan to follow for the rest of my life 👍 Good luck to my fellow dieters, take care xx

Hi and welcome, Sue :)

I had originally left this message on a reply of yours, but it's much better that you've now posted your own thread, so here it is again!! :D

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Make sure to enter your details into the NHS BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Hi Susie71 and welcome! This is a friendly place, and there's always plenty of encouragement, support and pom pom waving going on! (You'll get to read more about the pom poms in due course!)

There are many of us here who have some sort of barrier to losing weight easily - but the great thing is, it's entirely possible without any exercise whatsoever! In fact, successful weight loss is only achieved about 80% through diet and only 20% exercise. I suppose you could say that those of us who are unable to exercise, or whose exercise ability is compromised in some way just have to give it an additional 20%!

I started my weight loss journey at 14 stone - 5 and a half years ago. I was 49 years old and had been trying to lose weight all of my life since the age of 9.

I started my journey at the end of February 2012, and managed to lose 4.5 stone in 2 and a half years through calorie counting and logging/weighing all of my food.

Then re-gained some, lost some again and have now managed to more or less maintain for the past 6 months.

BUT... ideally I would love to drop another stone and maintain there.

I have a disability which makes exercise difficult, but the one thing that I realise very early on in my journey was that I was just eating FAR TOO MUCH! I was a short, middle aged, sedentary female and I was eating the same as 5ft 9" active man (my now husband!).

No wonder I was piling on the weight!

Here are a few of my past posts which I hope you will find helpful and inspiring. I won't try and tell you that my journey was easy - and you'll see that there were many blips along the way, but 5 years down the line, I feel about 20 years younger than I did when I was lugging around 4 stone more.

Please do pop back to the forums and share your journey with us - we are here for you, day and night and happy to share your success or support you when you need it.

Hi Pineapple. Thanks for the welcome. The good news was you don't need to exercise 😁. I had a day that I didn't want to go out at all so your information was a blessing! I will definitely look at your other posts. Good luck with your journey and you've already done well. Take care xx

Hello Susan

I have found this forum really helpful in keeping on track

People are friendly and encouraging

I am a year older than you and wish I had taken myself in hand sooner. As one joker once said now we are this age we don't need to worry about dying young anymore! By losing weight I hope to have a good quality of life for whatever time I am blessed with and I certainly am feeling revitalised and more energetic

So good luck on this new journey

Best wishes
