Hi SamStag and welcome

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI (can be found in the pinned Newbie post) to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊

To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support - which is great to get ideas of what other people are eating and I have to confess to nicking some of their menu's :) and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊

Cheering you to success to reach your goals 🎉🎉🎉

Hi SamStag and welcome!

Although it may seem like a huge journey ahead, you just have to look at it as each pound lost will be a pound towards your goal.

The good news is that you can totally change things around for yourself and avoid all sorts of potential illnesses that come with "middle age" (I'm not saying you're there yet!)

Being realistic may take you quite a few years (it took me 2.5 years to lose 4.5 stone) BUT just see the journey to goal as an education - and don't look upon this as a "diet" but as the opportunity to change your lifestyle for good!

Here are a few of my past posts which I hope you will find helpful and inspiring. I won't try and tell you that my journey was easy - and you'll see that there were many blips along the way, but 5 years down the line, I feel about 20 years younger than I did when I was lugging around 4 stone more.

Please do pop back to the forums and share your journey with us - we are here for you, day and night and happy to share your success or support you when you need it.

Hi Sam and good for you!

This group is a great way to get and stay motivated. As Woody Allen said "80% of success is showing up" so getting involved and joining in with the community is very helpful and supportive.

I know from experience that my "blip" came when I thought I could maintain my weight loss without tracking calories and exercise so I am a big fan of Myfitnesspal - free on the internet and I am back to weighing in on HU.

I think one accountable day at a time becomes a habit and eating healthier the new normal!

Thanks to all the admin :-)

Hi Sam,

I also am 38 (on Wednesday) and starting today. I desperately need to do something to change my terrible eating habits (large portions, evening sweet treats) so instead of going to WW or SW I thought I would give this a go. Good Luck Sam and please keep me posted on how you go, one step at a time.

Thank you admin for the advice.
