Hi guys, I'm new to this so go easy. I had a stroke 3 months ago due to diabetic complications I've regained the majority of my movement back - just a little weak now. However spending all that time in hospital has made me put on around 10kg. I want to shift the weight but because of the weakness makes the exercise hard. I'm following the weight loss plan so at least it's a start.

Hi there and welcome. I think that you should discuss this with your doctor first. I am so glad that you are well on the road to recovery, but would hate to suggest something that hindered this. Good luck. James
The weightloss plan will take you further than exercise will. Diet is the most important thing for losing weight so don't worry to much about exercise until you are strong and able again.
Just worry about eating healthy and that will build up your body to the strength it's needs to exercise. Relax and enjoy life like reading a book etc. Your body will let you know when it's ready. Welcome to the forum and good luck!!
Hi there chloe_marie and welcome!
I am sorry to hear about your stroke. I do a lot of work locally with the local Stroke Association and I am aware that you can have a stroke at any time in your life. I am pleased to hear that your recovery is going well.
Exercise isn't necessary for successful weight loss. As others have said, it's far better to make a full and proper recovery before you start to do too much. Concentrating instead on getting nourishing and proper food into your body will aid your recovery.
Losing that 10kg will no doubt also improve your ability to move around - every 3.5kg is the weight of a newborn baby, so I always think of the weight that I lost (28.5kg) as 9 newborn babies! I am only 4ft 9" so no wonder I was struggling!
You may already have visited the Stroke Association's website, but they do have some information about diet:

Hi chloe_marie. So sorry to hear about your stroke. Completely understandable that you have put on weight - who wouldn't? Good luck with the weight loss. You ear obviously highly motivted even if your ability to exercise is still a bit limited. Slow and steady wins the day ! Have a good week.
Hi and welcome
- so sorry to hear about your stroke
Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI (can be found in the pinned Newbie post) to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊
To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support - which is great to get ideas of what other people are eating and I have to confess to nicking some of their menu's and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.
Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊
Wishing you all the best on your weight loss journey
Welcome chloe_marie to this awesome forum. All the very best as you start out your journey.
