Hi and welcome

and well done on losing a stone already :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI (can be found in the pinned Newbie post) to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊

To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support - which is great to get ideas of what other people are eating and I have to confess to nicking some of their menu's and our β€œWhat's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊

Wishing you all the best on your weight loss journey

First do not give up!!!. And well done on the lost stone. Everybody has different metabolism. Maybe look at your eating plan and increase the exercise could be a simple as that. I hope you start losing weight soon. Good kuck.

Read this article on the MyFitnessPal blog from way back. It should reassure you that plateauing is not necessarily a bad thing: blog.myfitnesspal.com/the-u...

Hi xleighx do you know how many calories you are eating every day. Make sure you check out the calories you should be having to eat between daily on the NHS bmi calculator. I used to only eat around 1000 Cals a day and never managed to lose weight before. I found out that by not eating the amount of calories advised by the calculator to eat to be able to lose weight your body thinks that you are starving it and turns what I did eat into body fat and this weighs more than eating the extra calories does so it stopped me from losing weight and sometimes puts weight on instead. I am so pleased I found this out on here and have now managed to lose 2 1/2st so far by eating the right amount of calories advised. Please don't make this same mistake as I did. Good luck with your journey.

Ahhh I guess that makes sense I'm having about 1008 calories a day give or take the doctor also put me on orlistat so maybe I am just not getting enough ! It's so difficult you think your doing so well but not getting results x

You've done the hardest part! Now to just keep on going!

Here are a few of my past posts which I hope you will find helpful and inspiring. I won't try and tell you that my journey was easy - and you'll see that there were many blips along the way, but 5 years down the line, I feel about 20 years younger than I did when I was lugging around 4 stone more.

Please do pop back to the forums and share your journey with us - we are here for you, day and night and happy to share your success or support you when you need it.

Fantastic effort for the 1 stone loss. Some ideas for getting off the plateau:

1. Make sure you are eating enough. Trying to go too quickly will cause the opposite effect to the one you want.

2. Are you sure that you are counting accurately? It is very easy to think you are eating less than you actually are.

3. Are you using the same scales in the same spot each time you weigh? This can give very different results each time if you are not.

4. Watch out for sugar and alcohol as even if these are within your calorie range they can cause issues with weight loss.

Good luck with it. James

Hi James thanks for your reply yes I am doing all those things cut out alcohol altogether much to my other half annoyance 😁 I think maybe I am not eating enough I'm doing about 1008 calories a day I've cut out snacks altogether if I cut anymore I'd be as well just with water ha ha

Unless you are tiny 1008 calories is nowhere near enough, so I think you know what you have to do.

Why not have some chocolate? Straight after a meal some dark chocolate would be fine I think.

Yeah I have heard dark chocolate can be ok in small pieces I also love a mocha coffee but gave it up for the diet maybe I should indulge once in a while 😊

Hi when I first started trying to lose weight I just started counting calories, I soon found out that was not enough so I started to go to the gym & weight started coming off, you don't have to go the gym just going out for a walk is fine but not a stroll a brisk walk may help the point is keep at it don't give up you will do it just be determined.

Not what you're looking for?
