Frustrated !!!!!
H, it is frustrating when the scales don't move much. Have you taken your measurements, sometimes you can lose inches but not weight, especially if you are excercising a lot. Also, are you sure you are sticking to your calories, are you weighing everything and not just guessing portions, are you counting everything, even milk in tea/coffee? Maybe you could keep a food diary so you can check back to see what worked or didn't. Good luck.
I have lost inches.... I do weigh everything.... I don't take milk at all & I am sticking to my calories. According to the NHS BMI calculator I should be having between 1662 - 2137 calories a day !!!
Try a few different foods to see if that kick-starts the weight loss? Maybe High Protein Low carb or Up the fruit and veg and watch the fat intake? Just something different to what you would normally eat. Can you avoid alcohol too? Let us know how it goes. Maybe use an online calorie counter to keep track - Nutracheck are free for the first 7 days, and I find their webpages useful.
Hi Christine18,
Welcome to the Weight Loss NHS forum. Have you read our Welcome Newbie post yet? It's in the Pinned posts area - top right-hand-side of the homepage.
I realise you've been trying to lose weight for the past 4 weeks at least, but not really making much progress so far.
Have you considered checking your recommended calorie range on the NHS BMI calculator? Here is a page with the calculator on it, if you do wish to do this:
nhs.uk/Livewell/weight-loss...
It takes account of your current weight, height, activity levels etc to give you a tailored range to safely lose weight week by week.
I think the calorie suggestion given by MFP sounds really low personally.
Anyway, whatever you decide to do, I hope you have a good week ahead.
Lowcal
p.s. We have a weekly weigh-in session going on today - so if you like the idea of joining in with it, you'd be very welcome. See the latest thread in the Events section (below the pinned posts).
I know how you feel.I fluctuated by 2 pounds .First off then on again.
Are you weighing absolutely everything you eat? Do you eat any of your exercise calories back?
You need to eat enough calories to not give your body "starvation" signals. It thinks you are in a famine and is therefore conserving as much energy (fat) as possible. I consume between 1500-1700 a day and manage to lose weight consistently, in fact I have lost nearly 7 stones by doing this, so it does work.
Here is an article that explains it a little more: coachcalorie.com/not-eating...
I agree with less to lose, 1400 Kcal is the minimun amount you should eat and it's usually the recommended allowance for people who don't work out at all. I was in the starvation mode in week 11-12. I've been eating 1600-1700 kcal every day for the last 3 weeks and I lost amost 3 kg.
Hello, contradicting some of the other responses, could you in fact have been having more than 1230 cals a day? It is very easy to under-estimate how much you take in, so it might be worth trying for one week to be really strict at counting - it's rather boring, but weighing everything and writing it all down is worth doing, and you might find that you do then lose weight, as you certainly should on that calorie allowance.
Obviously, if you follow the suggestions to increase your cals and find you start losing weight, that's an even better solution! Best of luck,
