Hi and welcome. Parisjun :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the NHS BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Hi and welcome Parisjun

Nice to have you here....

Like you I am restricted in terms of exercise because of my disability. However, that just means that we have to eat a lot less than someone the same age/height who is more active... :-(

Once I got my head around that fact, it made complete sense, and when I started to log what I was eating, it soon became apparent why I had got to the size I had!

I lost 2 stone before I did any exercise, then started with swimming once a week.

These are some past posts I have made regarding my experience, but I successfully managed to go from 14 stone to 9st 3lb and from a size 24 to a size 16. Over the past three years regained some and then lost again and maintaining at about 10 stone... but confident that I'll never, ever get back to 14 stone!

The weight loss has helped enormously with so many things: reducing my pain, improving my mobility and my ability to remain independent as I am better able to carry out activities of daily living.

I love carbs and it is not easy to stop all together so I replace toast by porridge with half a banana and it keeps me going till lunch time, mind you I have my breakfast at around seven in the morning.

I aim to slowly take the bad carbs out and be consistent until I have only the good carbs and then reduce the amount :)

Good look and hope I could help x

I too have had issues with carbs. Over the years I have found that if I eat the recommended amount of carbs that I just wouldn't lose weight. What I do at the moment is have carbs once per day. If I have porridge for breakfast I then can't have any carbs later in the day. If I have a homemade smoothie or fruit for breakfast I do have carbs later in the day. All carbs I consume are complex carbs and having cut back on them for so long I can actually say that I don't miss them now. In fact I feel less sluggish.
