Does anyone have any tips as to how to cut out or reduce bread intake. Once I start eating it I just can’t stop.
Bread!: Does anyone have any tips as to... - Weight Loss Support
Bread!
Bread is my killer!! I just try not to have it hanging around as much as i used to!!
If i plan breakfasts such as mushrooms / scrambled eggs on toast i just buy enough for a week and the following week i have oats for breakfast and don't buy bread in.
If i just want bread for a weekend breakfast - i buy 2 or 4 rolls so i dont have any leftover for the week.
Otherwise i will just pick at bread and butter or toast all the time.
The other option is to freeze your bread. If you buy a loaf and then use a few slices for planned meals but want to take the temptation to gorge on the rest away - stick it in the freezer! If you use it for toast out of the freezer - its as good as fresh!
Omg, yes, I used to love toast dripping with butter, and marmalade, or marmite!!
Seconding what Steelad said. Also: do you eat white bread? Changing to whole grain may reduce the urge - at least it does for me.
I'm the same, it's so addictive. I buy the sandwich thins as only 100 cal, they are not addictive but do the job. Planning meals is key for me...if I'm in s rush and I don't know what to eat, bread usually ends up as the result. Plan plan plan...I too have wondered off plan this week so I need to take me own advice too
Bjm1 Bread had always been my downfall too I could never seem to give it up complety so I started to follow the slimming world plan with a few of my own tweaks and it has helped me, it only allows you 1 healthy b a day which can be either 2 smll slices of bread or cereal or something similar. It's really helped me focus on how much I did have.
Since then I've lost just over a stone it does seem to be working but in general just being a bit calmer and more controlled and also losing the alcohol which I'm now believing are all connected (maybe because there is also yeast in wine and beer !)
Good luck in your quest and in whatever way helps you.
Good morning, BJM1, and welcome to the forum.
I agree with Hidden , the way that worked for me was not buying it. It then pushes you to think of alternatives for where bread was the central part of your meal.

I find this is a big problem with processed white bread but nothing like so bad with wholemeal. I have found three things that lead to craving more and more, white bread, refined sugar and cheap vegetable oil. I eas wholemeal these day and organic bread, buy advcado oil and avoid refined sugar.
I too have had big problems with bread. Too much bread can really slow down the gut and lead to constipation and discomfort, not to mention the calories it adds. I sometimes buy some pumpernickel loaf to toast with my eggs, or I grab a couple of slices of a seeded loaf direct from the freezer. I used to love crusts with butter and jam....so I crumble them up and feed them to the birds. It can be almost as addictive as chocolate! If you make homemade jam...you will have to give it away as gifts. Oatcakes are a handy substitute, and packed lunches can be soups or salad pots. Hope all goes well with the meal planning....the benefits are so worth it.
I had the same thing - I don't really keep bread in the house. I have some pita breads in the freezer so I can pull one out and defrost if I want. I also buy bread rolls sometimes as I find it easier to stop after one, plus you can just buy the number you need.
Lol, yes, I just don't eat it any more, I'm following lchf, so no bread, potatoes, rice, pasta etc, I love some nice crusty white bread with butter! But, I just went cold turkey, I do occasionally miss it, but think the benefits of not having it outweigh the 5 minutes enjoyment whilst eating it
😁
Agree with the cold turkey approach. I just don’t buy it any more as I wouldn’t have the will power to stop. I was about to describe an array or scenarios of where I would just love to have it and then not that’s just torture. Just lchfhp is working for me and when I get to my target I’ll have to think hard about how I have it again. I’m not an everything in moderation girl, its all or nothing for me so bread is off the list, along with crisps. Ahhh man!!
Lol its so hard isn't it? Yes I agree with the maintaining bit? I'm thinking maybe I won't be able to have it again on a daily basis, just have it as a treat, or if on holiday etc? I console myself that although I can't have bread at the minute, I can have a selection of lovely cheeses! Which is another one of my weaknesses lol
I don't eat bread but hubby does - we keep baguettes / rolls in the freezer (come out as fresh if left to defrost naturally) and a 16 seed wholemeal sliced (Lidl) in fridge which keeps for ages.
The spanish eat bread with everything and I used to do the same. Now, like Caromia2015 I eat lchf. I tried some crusty with loads of butter recently and was pleased to find it was "OK" rather than yummy - really don't miss it!
Hi Bjm1,
I would be a medal winner eating toast and jam.
I don't eat white bread ,I eat seeded or brown but nowhere near the same amount.
My top is don't buy it or buy a smaller loaf .
Good luck,
Gary
Try putting it straight in freezer when you buy it then not as easy to gorge on it
My problem with bread is I can’t cook and I’m not that imaginative. So sandwiches and beans on toast are my go to things. I could have bread for every meal without even realising! Eg. Boiled egg and soldiers (breakfast), ham sandwich(lunch) cheese and tomato toastie with salad (dinner).
What I do now, is if I buy a loaf I freeze the slices in pairs and only defrost one pair per day (meal planning ahead) and I try to have crisp bread where possible. Goes great with boiled egg or even with bacon.
I know I couldn’t give up bread completely!
Just read all these comments while watching Wallace and Gromit - a matter of loaf and death !!!
We are all adults and should be able to control our cravings !!
What's wrong with us foodies ?? 😉 lol 🥪🌭🥐
Haha, I love Wallace and grommit! The curse of the weir rabbit is my favourite lol
Oh but it's sooo hard not to love bread,
Loving the Chat on here today!
Hey Bjm1
firstly, bread is not the enemy I tried to cut it out in an attempt of being healthy so many times, but being half-german it just doesn't work - it practically runs through my veins. So rather than see it as "bad" just reduce it. I still have bread every day and it doesn't really impact my weight loss - overall calorie intake does. So what actually helped me stay on track is to allow myself bread in moderation and trying to opt for healthier versions.
I really love Lidl buns, and you can buy single ones at a time (I love the multi-seeded triangle for example) and freeze them. Marks and Spencers also does delicious ones with loads of flavours like olive or cheese.
The evening before I always take one out and defrost it overnight, and have it for breakfast with Salmon or so. Not EVERY day but maybe 3-4 times a week.
Same goes for sliced bread. Freeze it in little batches of two slices max, and take it out as you need. Bread is a tricky one as you always tend to buy a bigger loaf, and if it's in front of you then you could just continue eating, so for me it just helped to ration it right away. Hope this helps!
I have a small loaf and limit myself of two slices a week. Sometimes I only buy rolls because it is obvious that they are missing (still a secret eater). I also buy Warburtons Thins which stave off the craving for bread, you can have a sandwich without piling on the pounds. I never buy a thick white loaf - it would be gone in minutes.
