Today has been a right off

Hi

I just wanted to vent a little and ask advice on how others deal with days like today.

I am a manager dealing with a department which has some serious issues, a lot of which are not helped by the behaviour of my direct report. We are starting down the performance management route and today has been really stressful.

As a consequence I have not done my 10k steps as I worked too late, I am drinking wine and have an overwhelming urge to stuff my face with chocolate which I am so far resisting.

How do others deal with stress without resorting to wine and chocolate. I have tried yoga, mindfulness and hysterical crying none of which work as well as wine and chocolate.

Thank you for letting me vent a little in a safe environment

Hi, I totally feel your pain! My job is stressful too and I have to force myself to drive past the chip shop without stopping. I have usually managed it though for months now and I feel proud. To deal with the stress I try to exercise, dance around to music, talk to someone or watch some escapism tv. I also spend money on things other than food like holidays and clothes. The stress is still there though but then even with choc or in my case chips the stress was still there and I used to then feel bad about the junk I had eaten. I wish you luck, keep posting!

Oh dear, what an awful day you have had. I'm afraid I too am an emotional eater. I think it gets easier the more you resist. You could try cleaning your teeth, everything will taste horrible after that. Find other ways of calming the body, have a long soak in a warm bath, read a book, listen to some lovely soothing music, find some good self hypnosis tapes, beat up a pillow and get rid of some of the pent up frustrations from the day, go for a walk to calm the mind. If you really need chocolate, invest in some Options Hot Chocolate, I like the mint one - works for me when I need chocolate and only 40 calories a mug.

Well done for venting - maybe another suggestion would be - go to bed!

I hope tomorrow is kinder to you. :)

Going to bed is definitely the answer. None of this is helped by husband also being stressed but still stuck at his job and likely to be either staying in London overnight or driving back really late.

Never fun when there are two stress bunnies, at least you are at home. Go to bed an get some sleep - tomorrow is another day - don't beat yourself up over the wine - we all do it - we are only human after all.

When you see your husband, a big cuddle will help you both :)

Cuddles reduce stress like nothing else.

Thank you I am so grateful to this forum

Feel free to vent. My hubby is out of town working for months and don't know when he'll return. I am drinking vodka but didn't eat the chicken pot pie from KFC I really wanted. Diet is good but I know I will be a little bloated from the alcohol. Don't know how I would deal without one or the other. Cry I guess. We are human and will have our moments, as long as it's not a habit it will be OK. I think a little something here and there is OK. Hope your day looks up.

I have been stressed over the last few days.i posted yesterday that I am in a rut..I went for a walk last night and I decided to get up early today and go for a jog.i set all of my gear out last night and I was up and out for 5:30am.

I used to go to the gym,but I do enjoy running,it's one of the things I am good at .so I was determined to get up and go.

As you say it's good to vent ,it's a safe place to .take care glamgran ,look after yourself that's the main thing .

Once I was told me ,don't accept others judgements on my work,I am good enough.

Delegate where you need to and be happy with yourself 1st

Take care

I would give in, have loads of wine and chocolates, then as well as feeling stressed you could feel guilty. Seriously though, there is no magic formula, as they say, this to will pass
