Hi. Need to lose 2-3 stone

Hi.

I'm 48 yrs old & 15st 8 lbs.

I'm struggling to get into exercise as I've basically drank lager and had the odd take out over the last 25 years.

I understand that nothing changes overnight but I tend to lose interest after a week or two and go back to what I'm used to.

Any advice on how I could change things?

Thanks

Alex

Hi Alex,

Welcome to the weight loss forum.

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.

To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.

Have a good first week.

Rose

I don't know what would work for you, but for me it helped to start running. It helped me in many ways. It obviously helped me burn some calories, but it also helped motivate me to stick to healthy eating because my body needed proper fuel, and I wanted to become a lighter, faster runner.

Good luck

Hi afyfe123

I've had the same problem with too much alcohol and take aways but us Irish love a good party 😂

I only started losing weight when I put my mind too it and pushed myself to go to the gym a few times per week. Once you start losing weight and seeing the results, it encourages you to watch what you eat / drink.

Well that's me but good luck to you ☘️ and there's lots of great people who offer support and advice on here so your not alone 😊

I know what you mean about the takeouts as we had one most Fridays as our treat before but now we just do them occasionally since I started here last year. It isn't very often but we have had a few, although one thing I have done is look up the companies I will be going to and finding out if they have calorie information on their sites. Some do and some don't. The ones with the information I will only order from and try to get the lower calorie items that I can fit in but with the others if I speak to them and ask about it I tell them I can't order from you as you don't have the calorie information on your menu or website. It might help push them to look at doing this.

I've never come across a takeout that includes calorie information. I'll have to investigate further. Thanks

I hadn't noticed it either till I had come on here and was still determined to stick as much as I could with the weight loss. I had never noticed it with restaurants either. But I was looking at one menu and asked the staff about it and they just showed me it was next to the product at the end after the product info just in smaller writing and on here it recommends looking on line. We wouldn't have looked anywhere for the info before that would also be why we hadn't noticed.

Well done on your honesty. .. you have identified the problem and now you know where to start. Maybe making health focused friends at a football team or swimming pool would help? Don't wait for motivation to come to you... losing a couple of pounds can be very motivating! ! 😁 best wishes
