Hi all, I'm fairly new to this. I am struggling with getting into the right mindset. I do badly want to lose weight but I feel like it's a losing battle. I struggle with thinking of new meal ideas and end up falling off the 'healthy bandwagon' so easily.
Mindset: Hi all, I'm fairly new to this... - Weight Loss Support

Dear Mindset
You have come to the right place for information and support. One of the site administrators will welcome you and point you in the right direction to get the most from this forum.
I've just reached my target weight after six months. You are absolutely right in recognizing that you need to be in the right place mentally to start on your weight loss journey.
I found the book called Overcoming Weight Problems which I read at the start of my weight loss journey was fundamental to my success. Motivation is the key and I wrote down all my reasons for wanting to lose weight. I then worked out a weight loss plan. I was very focused but kept it simple. Amounts count and counting calories and steps were at the heart of my plan. If you eat less and move more weight will be lost. Slow weight loss is both healthier and more sustainable in the long run. Nothing was forbidden if it was within my calorie allowance. However, I found eating a healthy well balanced diet left me feeling satisfied. Hunger was rarely a problem.
I wish you success. Daisy1925
Hello and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum
Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.
The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you. Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate
The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page. And if you just want to chat, to say hello or share any news or struggles then look out for What's Happening Today thread.
You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask
Best wishes
Anna
I have been struggling with trying to lose weight for some time. I've was shopping, buying healthy foods, then throwing most away. I just couldn't get into the right mindset, and every day I would tell myself I'll start again tomorrow. I found this site and the NHS 12 week plan last Tuesday. All the help and advice here has given me the motivation I needed. I'm just starting day 5, I'm keeping it simple and choosing normal foods and watching portion sizes. I'm counting calories which I haven't done for a long time, this is helping me realise just how much I was eating before, now my choices and portion control are much better. Keep reading all the information and advice here, it's been a huge help to me I've managed to find my mindset and motivation, I hope you do too. xx
Hello there ! The best thing I can offer here is plan plan plan ! Put aside some free quiet time when you can settle down and plan your meals for a few days, then do a shopping list etc. There are lots of healthy meal ideas on different sites, bbc good food is just one of many....you can tweak them too..... As for mindset..... that's a cow if a different colour 😕 In my experience that 'light switch ' is either on or it isn't 🙁 I've wasted time, tears etc starting a new healthy eating plan when my heart wasn't really in it from the beginning and I believe it can be worse than not trying at all ...... if your really not ready to start to tackle anything then don't, or your not giving yourself a fighting chance ...... BUT you can 'motivate' yourself .... look around this forum for inspiration and you see lots of us have good and not so good times...... but we support each other through ..... this is a lovely lovely site, please stay with us whatever you decide to do ...... wishing you all the very best Trierisme
Hi and welcome to the forums. Losing weight isn't easy but it can be done. When I first joined someone told me to ask myself why I want to lost weight and that really helped me get my focus especially when I was honest about myself to myself and really focused on why I personally wanted to lose weight and not why other people did.
Planning is key especially with meals. Do you have recipe books? The daily dairy on here is great for recipe ideas, but there are loads of ideas on the internet too. While having new meal ideas is useful, sometimes have meals you know you like that are healthy regularly works.
