Bariatric Surgery

I had to see the dietician yesterday and he has suggested that I seriously consider bariatric surgery I have to have some blood tests and see him again in a few weeks I'm really not sure if this is the road I want to go down I realise its my choice but I just seem to be going up and down the same few pounds each week and that's not good either. They hav'nt said what type of bariatric surgery yet but I surpose it wont hurt to at least listen. -:) x x

This obviously has to be your own decision, Betty, but I wouldn't be me, if I didn't throw in my two penn'orth! ;)

My feeling is that major surgery, is an unnecessary assault on your body and weight loss is possible without it, you just have to find the right way to go about it. Bariatric surgery leads you open to all sorts of other problems, some that can have long standing effects

Excessive bleeding

Infection

Adverse reactions to anesthesia

Blood clots

Lung or breathing problems

Leaks in your gastrointestinal system

Death (rare)

Longer term risks and complications of weight-loss surgery vary depending on the type of surgery. They can include:

Bowel obstruction

Dumping syndrome, causing diarrhea, nausea or vomiting

Gallstones

Hernias

Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)

Malnutrition

Stomach perforation

Ulcers

Vomiting

Death (rare)

You have to weigh up the pro's and cons!

I'm going to tag RobLandsdown91 , as he's had the surgery, had to have it reversed, because of complications and has experienced most of the list above!!

Why not join the Daily Diary and we'll see, if between us, we can come up with the right plan of action for you? :)

Sorry to be a scare-monger, but I care about you! xx

Thank you so much for the very useful info and it really is useful. This really isn't a road I want to go down and have already refused the op twice but at this stage I surpose I'm feeling desperate which could prob be the reason I never said no straight away as all I seem to do is go up and down the same few pounds. Everyone is so kind on here and I do listen to everyone I am just finding my way around the site a little difficult which is why I havnt joined in the daily diary but I WILL as I really do need all the help I can get. Thank so much once again. -:) x x x

I agree with you that it won't hurt to listen. Perhaps ask the consultant about other possible paths before deciding what is right for you. Good luck
