Hello charliebenetti and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum

Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask

Best wishes

Anna

I did the same Hun. Don't worry it will come off eventually :) I was 16 stone in last year got down to 13 (did get to 12 but put a stone on recently as I've been ill 😷). Try not worry too much, I tend to stress eat when I worry xx

Congratulations on quitting smoking. That is the hardest battle you'll ever fight. Losing weight will happen. Everyone finds their own method. Mine was calorie counting, pure and simple counting every morsel that passed my lips and staying within my recommended calorie limit. Join a weigh in as that keeps you accountable. Good luck. You can do it.

Hi there, when I first joined here I wasn't losing weight to start with and when I mentioned it on here I found out that my reason for never losing weight was because I wasn't actually eating enough calories as I always thought eating less would help me lose weight quicker. I was advised to check my calories I should eat to actually lose weight on the NHS bmi calculator as this tells you how many you should eat to actually lose weight. Do make sure you eat between the two amounts it gives you to lose weight as if you eat less than it says your body thinks that you are starving it and turns what you do eat into body fat and this weighs more than eating the extra calories does so it stops you from losing weight and sometimes means you may put weight on instead. Once I upped my calories and ate the right amount I started losing weight and have now lost 2st. Please make sure you don't make this mistake as I done this for years and always struggled with my weight. Good luck with your journey.

I get my 'yummy' treat from having a cappuccino or latte. It's just got that hint of sweetness to keep me away from those glorious cakes.

Well done for stopping smoking. Nothing is harder than that. If you can stop smoking, you definitely have the willpower and determination to make a success of losing the belly. You already made the first step too!

If you use the NHS BMI calculator it will give you a range of calories to eat between - stick to that and you should lose weight steadily without feeling hungry. It might be more calories than you think - I always have enough calories for a lunchtime kitkat, and an ice lolly / homemade icecream after dinner (those are my vices!).

Good luck!
