Hi there Hidden you should here from one of our administrators soon who will give you some good advice. Welcome to the forum and you will get lots of advice from many people here over time as it is a great site and don't be afraid to ask any questions. One thing I will let you know that happened to me when I first joined was that I had struggled for years to ever lose weight and was informed that I had to check out the NHS bmi calculator for the correct amount of calories you should take to actually lose weight. To start with I was still eating less than it said but was still not losing weight. I was then told that this was my problem. Because I only ate around 1000 calories a day my body thought I was starving it and turned everything into body fat to ensure it could continue. This weighs more than eating the extra calories does so it stops you from losing weight and sometimes means that you end up putting on weight as well. I had to eat at least the amount it advised me to eat to be able to lose any weight. As soon as I upped my calories to the amount it said I started to lose weight and have now lost 2st. Please make sure you don't make this same mistake because I did this for years and always struggled with losing weight. Good luck with your journey.

Hi Hidden . Well I'm sure one of our lovely admin people will be in touch to point you in the right direction, but as some one who has had an underactive thyroid for 35 years, let me reassure you that if you are on the right medication, this will not affect your ability to lose weight at all. Key things are portion control and/ or calorie counting. Good luck!

Hi and welcome Hidden

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you 😊

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news 😊

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker nhs.uk/tools/pages/healthyw... to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page 😊 We also have a daily diary section which is great to get ideas of what other people are eating and I have to confess to nicking some of their menu's :)

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊

Welcome Hidden and good luck with your weight loss goals. You can do this if you follow all the advice you have been given. I cut my portions down and cut out alcohol and that made a huge difference. I also do not buy any sweet or fattening 'treats' and try to stick to freshly cooked wholesome food with the emphasis on lean protein and lots of fresh vegetables and fruit. Best wishes EJ

Thanks for the comments
