Help me to lose weight
You are aware of the problem Helen, and that's a great start! With BMI 39 it's probably not realistic to start with a tough exercise regime, but if you can get into the habit of doing walking, say 30 minutes a day, then that will be a very good start. And maybe record everything you eat and drink so you know what your calorie intake is every day? Then you can form a strategy to bring it down. Lots of great advice on this site. Most of which boils down to eating less and exercising more. And because you have a lot of weight to lose, your weight of loss at the beginning may be impressive, so regular weighing will give you a good feeling! And although you may not immediately see the weight loss in the mirror, there is a good chance that you will find that the regular walking, or other exercise, gets easier fairly quickly. So good luck!
Hello Helenjane and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum
You are not alone in this diet/binge cycle, and I feel for you ๐ The answer for me was a sensible eating plan, not too restrictive. To lose weight you need a calorie deficit but NOT TOO MUCH or your body simply clings onto the fat and sends all sorts of hormonal signals that lead to cravings and bingeing. Please read the following suggestions carefully, especially the bit about BMI and target calories. ๐
Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.
The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate
The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page
You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask
Best wishes
Anna
Hi Helen welcome to our use it and lose it club. I need to lose 3 stone so rather than think of 3 stone I have set my self smaller achievable targets which started with eating more fruit and veg and less bread, cakes and biscuits and I bought myself a fit bit with the aim of walking more. Walking at a good pace puts your heart into fat burning mode and I reckon while I am walking I am not eating !!! lol so set some small goals, plan your menus and make them interesting and tasty and you will soon get that BMI down and your weight will start to fall off
Good luck
