Newbie Daily Calorie Intake Query

I am just about to embark on my weight loss journey! Have spent the weekend planning menus, doing my shopping, preparing some healthy lunches and reading reading reading. Tomorrow it begins!! However I'm a bit confused about the BMI calculator reading. It says I should eat between approx 1500 and 1900 calories per day. But for a steady weight loss (1 to 2lbs per week) which end of that scale should I be?!

Thanks 😬

Hi WhiteBex :)

If you've been eating quite high calories in the past I would try the top end first. Get yourself going and reassess after a couple of weeks. You can always reduce calories as you go.

Good luck :)

Thanks for that...although worried I won't lose anything being at the top end. I have a bad habit of dieting for a week or so, not seeing a decent loss then giving up!

Saying that though, I have also fallen into the trap of not eating enough and not seeing any weight loss. Very disheartening!

I think I need to go for middle ground and see how I get on for a week or two. X

Hi and welcome to the forum, it will all depend on your initial weight and height and how many calories you have honestly been eating daily, the bigger you are the higher the calorie intake will be on a daily basis to start you off, I'm down to most days being on 1200 as I started at 1500 but now that created a plateau so had to drop as I really only need to lose about 10lb more, that's seemingly the hardest bit to lose for me.

More info would be good as that let's us see where your coming from and what weight your hoping to achieve, be realistic though as this is an amble not a race

Hi! Thanks for replying.

Well, today is my very first day and all going well so far! Am yet to have dinner (just waiting for Tesco to drop off supplies).

Have decided to try and stick to 1500 calories as this seems about the same food quantity as I had on WW in the past. I will stick with this figure for a week and see what happens, then adjust accordingly.

Im currently 12.2 stone at 5'6" I want to get down to 11 stone (by Christmas would be splendid) which will take me comfortably down to a size and shape that I have been happy with in the past. This is at the top of the healthy weight chart for my height. Any more weight loss and I start looking anorexic as I am very much a pear shape and I lose too much from my top half, which is already only a uk size 10 in most clothes.

Racing is not my style....happy to amble but it does help me to see loss every week to stay motivated...even if it's only 1/2 lb! I'm sure most people would agree with that x
