Hi all. I am a 54 y. o. male with a legacy of big yo yo dieting. My last and what i Though final push was to loose 11 stone with W.W.'s. Unfortunatly due to a year of sudden and unexpected mental illness (A & D) my weight has crept back on and I find myself back at a massive 27-3 . I am now out the other side of the A & D & know I am able to tackle the weight. I know all the right things to do and eat, it's now just a case of cracking on with it. Good luck to you all with your own journey. Feel free to PM me if you need any encouragement or support or just want a chat. Steve
Hello everyone: Hi all. I am a 54 y. o... - Weight Loss Support
Hello everyone
Hi and welcome, Chunky
Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.
Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.
We run a weigh-in every day of the week and you'd be very welcome to join one of them. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the HOME page, bottom on a mobile.
We also run a Daily Diary, where we share our meal and exercise plans for the day. It's a great place to get ideas and to keep us focused. The link can also be found in Events.
Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.
It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey
Hi, xxxchunkyxxx and welcome to the forum.
I have struggled with my weight since I was 8 and I have decided that this is the year that I finally get my weight down to a sensible weight for my height (5ft 3).
I struggle to eat enough as I didn't used to eat when I was on my own, so most days I didn't eat until my evening meal. I counted my calories and I was only having between 500-800 calories a day .
I am now forcing myself to have breakfast and lunch every day and hopefully will be down to a new, smaller me by christmas lol but I need to lose at least 6 st preferably more so any tips would be really appreciated.
Good luck with your new healthier life style

Hi Deb. I think for me in the past it was about not denying myself things but being creative in finding or making halthier alternatives. I love cooking which helps. I am bad for not drinking enough water. When I make an effort to drink more that helps the weight loss (it makes a big diffeŕnce to your skin too). If you have a problem with the volume of food you can eat try bulking up the calories with things like cream or full fat yogurt perhaps. As you say not enough calories are sometimes as bad as to many as your body goes into starvation mode. Good luck for Christmas and your longer term transformation. X
I am also really bad at drinking, if it wasn't for the fact I take tablets 4 x a day some days I probably would only have a glass of water a day with the odd decaff coffee when in cold weather.
I will have to push myself to drink more too lol.
You know you can lose the weight, you have proved that, so you should be in a much better place by christmas too.

Wow - you lost 11 stone with WW, that's amazing! How long did it take? I'm sorry you put weight back on but you have lost it before and can do again. Look at making permanent lifestyle changes - it's isn't easy but I believe it's the only way. I hope you find the forum useful.
Hi Ella. It took around 13 months but that included lots of time in the gym and cycling. The anxiety side crushed me. Dont know where it came from but it messed up the weight loss totally. That's 100% behind me now and as you kindly said I have done it before so it's time to get busy and shift the weight. Good luck with your own journey. X
