Better Late Than Never.....

Hi there. I have just joined your community in the hope that I can get my weight, and in turn my health, back on track. I am 44, married and mum of 2, with a BMI of 38!!! Been a yo-yo dieter for years with some success but always seem to fall back into old habits and pile the weight back on. But things have got to change! I'm an emotional eater so I eat when I'm happy or sad.....or bored! In my head I know that I need to eat less and exercise more but seem to stall when it comes to doing it, which makes me cross with myself, so I eat, get upset, eat.......you get the idea! I really hope that I can take back control with your help and be the person I know I am inside.....here's to new beginnings! x

Hi and welcome Ringo44

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you 😊

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news 😊

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker nhs.uk/tools/pages/healthyw... to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page 😊 We also have a daily diary section which is great to get ideas of what other people are eating and I have to confess to nicking some of their menu's :)

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask 😊

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊

well done for taking the step, I too am a yo yo dieter, all my adult life been following one diet or another, now at 60 I just want to be healthy and fitter, no longer chasing that magic number on the scales. I have tried them all, Cabbage soup, WW, SW, Rosemary Conley, Body Coach. I am now just doing exercise more and eat less rubbish, in fact since I have been doing this if anything I am eating more. I have a treat day once a week but make sure that I exercise to compensate, by exercise I like walking, it's free. I have started at a gym and doing a few weights under the supervision of a PT just so I know I am working the muscle groups I need to. Also I found a video through a friend on Face Book James Smith Training and what he said makes sense. We make the mistake of going at it too hard for a couple of weeks and that is totally unsustainable to us ordinary folks. He said make a couple of changes in a couple of weeks, such as walk an extra 1000 steps more than you would have every day or take 1 teaspoon less sugar in your tea, then after a couple of weeks add another couple of good habits and so on and it won't seem so daunting.

Good luck with your journey and be kind to yourself, Fat, Thin, or in between you are a remarkable human being, start believing in yourself x

Hello and welcome Ringo44 😊 You have had a lovely welcome there from Cracker so please have a good read of the links suggested and ask if you have any questions 😊

I also agree with Karengail about making small but sustainable changes, I call it a step by step approach, whatever changes you make need to be permanent to keep the weight off. 😊

Lastly, I strongly recommend you join me on the Daily Diary as this is an excellent resource and help in planning your meals and exercise.

Best wishes

Anna

Morning Ringo44, welcome to the forum, I joined yesterday. Sounds like you and me have very similar responses to food, so do many others on this forum, which will just make us stronger as a group. to be honest I was overwhelmed yesterday about the genuine non judgemental support, I now believe I can share with this forum exactly how it is and that people will celebrate my successes and pick me up if I fall down.

This morning my 12 year old daughter and I danced around the living room to Meghan Trainer "Its all about the bass" and sang our hearts out. (Not sure what the neighbours will think!) but its a catchy tune, a little dance equals a little exercise and I like the words of the song.

This feels like a family online, so I hope you feel as if you belong here like I do, this forum seems like the most positive response to weight loss I have found.

Good Luck x
