I weigh double what I should be

Hello 👋

I'm a 37 year old woman with a 4 year old girl. My weight ballooned to 18 stone when I was pregnant with her and I have tried evey diet, currently doing. WW and I do a sh'bam and aquafit class each week but still struggling with how I look. I should weigh around 8 stone for my height but at the moment I weigh 16 stone and really unhappy with myself. I don't eat a lot of junk food and I would say fairly healthy. I take news for anxiety and IBS too.

Hi and welcome, Kazgogs :)

It's time to stop going on 'diets' and time to embark on a healthy lifestyle :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

We run a weigh-in every day of the week and you'd be very welcome to join one of them. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the HOME page, bottom on a mobile.

We also run a Daily Diary, where we share our meal and exercise plans for the day. It's a great place to get ideas and to keep us focused. The link can also be found in Events.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

you're not alone. Admin will put you in the right direction to get the best from the forum. I've never followed ww before, always just yo-yo dieting. Cutting things out here and there. I'm following the 12 wk NHS plan and so far so good. Best of luck whatever you choose to do.👌

I hope you have been eating enough calories most of the time. Make sure you check how many calories a day you should have on the bmi calculator to help you lose weight because when I first joined it told me how many calories I should have a day to lose weight, but I still ate less than it said and I was not losing any weight. I hardly ever ate enough calories most days in general and whenever I was on a diet I ate even less and never lost weight and found this really strange. I found out on here that if you don't eat enough calories a day then you put on weight more often because your body thinks you are starving it so turns what you do eat into body fat to ensure it can continue. I decided to give it a go and eat between the amount it says on the bmi calculator and started to lose weight. I have now lost just over one and a half stone. If I lose another 2lbs I will have lost 2st.

Hi and welcome Kazgogs23

Moreless is right about diets, as a former yo-yo dieter all I actually achieved was lose it, gain it, lose it, gain more. But with the help and support from this forum you can change the way you think, healthy eating is so much better, the bmi calculator will give you a sensible amount of calories for the day, it's up to you how you use them, but I found sugar swaps, more fruit and veg, you can still have treats within your allowance. I'm eating loads and I'm never hungry.

Join in on the forum it really does make a difference, Join a challenge, a weigh in, post your highs and lows, ask questions or just chat, they really are a friendly supportive bunch

Good luck with your journey

Welcome here. You have made an amazing first step joining the forum and I'm sure you will turn things around. Its really hard when you have a child to make time for yourself, my youngest is 9 and I still struggle with that. But you will both benefit from your happiness.

I did the NHS 12 week plan - and now on 27 weeks, I just kept going with it because I didnt find it was a diet, more of a lifestyle and I've really changed how I eat.

It took me a good few months to stop looking for a quick fix, and realise that to get to the weight I want is going to take a year. Maybe it will take more. And in recent weeks, that has ceased to bother me entirely and I'm just going with the flow and enjoying feeling healthier in the moment. It really is a journey, and this forum is a wonderful place to share the road.

All the best
