I hope everyone had a good Christmas. Last Monday I weighed 14 stone 3.4 pounds, and today I weigh 14 stone 4.6 pounds, so I've gained 1.2 pounds. I am thankful it wasn't more - because I definitely overate over Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Lots of chocolates mainly, on top of the usual festive foods. I experienced a sugar overload, and am going to resolve to limit my sugar intake in the New Year.
There's no time like the present, so I hope to 'get back on track' as of today - and I am giving myself the goal to try to lose between 1 and 2 pounds over this week.
Please join me for this Monday weigh-in, and I hope that everyone has a good week so we can get rid of all those Christmas excesses and start the New Year on a positive footing!

Well done - I think to have gained such a small amount is very good and you know the reasons behind it and have your plan to counteract it in place. Good luck for the coming week.
I unfortunately continued not to do so well and am feeling very annoyed and disappointed with myself this morning. Like you, there is no time like the present and I am getting back on track today.
Since the 11th December I have gained an incredible 9 lbs. My only hope is that because I have gained so quickly, I will lose it (or at least some of it) very quickly. What this has taught me is how careful I need to be and that I have not re-educated myself on healthy eating, even though I thought I had. Like you, I have had a sugar rush and I have also gone to bed feeling unwell through too much rich food.
It started with my Husband's lovely birthday cake ...... then work meal out (no, I didn't need, and didn't enjoy my pudding, came home and fell asleep immediately on the sofa) and then I had at most 8 extra people staying - 4 people for 5 nights, 1, for 3 nights and 2 for 2 nights (all at the same time) so I wanted to do nice meals ... which they were but the trouble was I ate them. I only managed one walk in that time. Yesterday was my Grandaughter's first birthday party - so again, party food and bad eating.
My goals this week are to start walking everyday (today I am waiting for the strong winds and rain to stop) and to lose any weight I can - no actual figures in mind. In other words, get back on track.
I hope you and all our fellow healthy eaters have a good week - and Happy New Year.
Wow, you have had such a lot on over Christmas - all that hosting of guests and the subsequent rich delicious meals. Well done for coping with it all, and don't berate yourself for putting on 9 pounds since 11th December - afterall, it could have been far worse! I am sure it won't take you too long at all to lose that weight.
It's good to be able to focus on getting back on track now that all the Christmas events are out of the way - not easy to exercise with the rain and the wind, but I have started to take a few extra trips up and down stairs, just to try to use up a few more calories! It gets me out of breath and I feel like I've done something energetic.
@Lowcal: That's amazing to have not gained more, well done.
I normally do a weight comparison on Wednesday's because I find that the preceding 2 days (Mon, Tue) are normally pretty much the same routine wise, my weight on a Monday is often up and down depending on what we do over the weekend.
Anyway my weight last Monday was 11st 10.5 Pounds, this week it's 11st 12 Pound, so that's a gain of 1.5 Pounds, which is OK as historically Xmas time I often gain anything between 1 and 2 stones in weight! I've been in maintenance now for a good 18 months and have learned so much in that time, things that I was were able to put into practice this Festive Period, I've been very mindful of my food intake and activity levels, the only day I really kicked off my shoes was Christmas Day itself, which I regretted because if anything I ate too much, felt a little unwell (sugar rush) and did not enjoy it! All other days, I've eaten sensibly and exercised hard!
@Bispers: It's must be very difficult to maintain a routine with having so many guests to cater for, I can imagine you are disappointed with 9 Pounds but it's done now, that can't be changed but you can and will lose it again I am sure, once you are back on track. Hopefully it will come off easily as it was such a quick gain. Good Luck!
Thanks OlsBean - I certainly hope it will come off quickly, and also that when faced with temptations in the future I will be able to be more selective.
Well done on your small gain - I agree with you that it is indeed amazing not to gain much more. I think the media often say that people gain an average of about 5 pounds just over Christmas day itself! That could be an inaccurrate statistic, but it sounds about right from my past experience. Like you, I have been able to gain a lot in the past.
It's great that you've been able to maintain your weight for the past 18 months - you've done really well.
That 'sugar rush' experience is horrible! I am really going to try to remind myself of how horrible it felt, so that I don't repeat it. The only trouble was that I enjoyed the various chocolates and shortbread biscuits so much at the time! But it's just not worth it!
Hope you have a good week. I know your normal weigh-in day is Wednesday - which is a good day to do it this week as it will be 1st January 2014. Let's hope the New Year starts well...!!! I have a good feeling about 2014. I think it will be a better and healthier year.
I weighed last Wednesday (Christmas Day!) and I was 11 Stone 8.75 Pounds, so lets see what this week brings!
I'm hoping today to get my 30,000 steps badge over at Fitbit fitbit.com/user/26JCPD I've been so close before, 30,000 steps in a day is harder than it sounds I am over halfway there today, but I've run for an hour and 15 minutes this morning and I don't think I can do that again today.
It's done! Did a second 1 hour run this afternoon (just completed), knackered now, I've run just short of 26km today (90 min run + 60 min run) and done 1 hour of TaeBo, all the name of "Virtual Competitivity"
I've just looked back and have held this weight for 3 months now. Very pleased with that but really... I want this last 5lb off. My jeans are just that little bit too tight.
OlsBean...how did you get the last bit of weight off when close to your current goal/healthy weight/ end point??
Don't say extreme competitivity as I don't think that I'll be into that much...any other suggestions?
It will eventually come off if you stick at it, just don't do anything too drastic as you've managed to maintain for a good period now and it would be a shame to upset that balance you have achieved.
You sound like you are reasonably happy with the weight you are at now, so that take the pressure off to see quick results.
Try cutting your portion sizes slightly at meals times or increase your activity level slightly. Either eating 100 calories less or burning an extra 100 calories a day should see a pound loss a month.
You could also consider using an activity monitor such as Fitbit (other brands are available), which does in my own experience helps with motivation and enables you to reasonably accurately to track your activity levels.
Thanks OlsBean, you've reminded me that it's gonna be slow work, but as the long as the trajectory is going in the right way I need to persist and be patient. Thanks
I actually went on yesterday, got 35,000 steps then was so close that I decided to go for the 40,000 award, so yesterday evening before bed I pounded out another 3,600 steps to the 40k! My wife thinks I am nuts :/
Wow, I think maybe you should stop for a good rest!!! 40,000 steps!!! I wonder what equivalent distance that might be in terms of walking between places! Congratulations on attaining your award.
It's 26 miles according to what Fitbit recorded. No rest today, I've run 12k this morning, just finished weights (upper body) and I've got an hour of Cardio to do later, I'll probably rest up tomorrow because I've got a New Years Day Meal to cook!
Weighed this morning (Wednesday 1st) at 11st 9 Pounds so that's a 0.25 Pound gain on last week, so I can safely say I've maintained over Christmas I think, which is a first for me!
Morning - my gain is 3 pounds -too much xmas cheer, fun and festivities. Even with running that feels slightly annoying - but there we are. Just two celebratory meals left - tonight (curry fest) and new years day with family. I am then into dryathon jan and back to 1400 calls a day.
Seems like we're all under the average Christmas weight gain so far. That's good! Enjoy your Curry Fest and New Year's Day celebrations, and good luck with the Dryathon January!
Let's hope we all have a great weight loss year in 2014.
Hi Lowcal, I've weighed in at 11st 8lb, again! Obviously I've been eating more than usual over Christmas so I'm surprised that I've maintained; but not complaining!! Just hope it doesn't all catch up with me next week. I need to track back over my posts but I think I've maintained this weight for a good couple of months. Which is great but I'm still determined to get to 11st 4lb and maintain at that weight instead.
SS it's either move more or eat a little less I first hit goal 11.1 end of August on fluke but then I seemed to be back to around 11.5 and it took me to mid November to constantly be sub 11 have managed that just about for dec........
Thanks Prin, you're right it's about getting back to basics and consuming less than I need. I'm pleased I've maintained and I don't think it's a bad thing to hold a plateau from time to time...but I'm bored with it now and want the last bit off. Thanks for the reminder, I'm going to get focused now and stop nibbling bits which haven't really been registering with me till your reminder. Thanks
You've done so well to maintain your weight over Christmas. Well done!
You asked about goals for 2014 - mine is to get to 12 stone 7 pounds by August 2014, but at the same time I would be happy to get anywhere close to 13 stone. I'm 14 stone 4.6 pounds now. This time last year I was 15 stone 2.6 pounds, so I am getting there!
Best of luck with your 2014 goals, and Congratulations on your achievements so far this year.
