Hello, I'm Wendy and I really need to lose weight, I'm a diabetic (due to putting weight on) I stopped smoking after 20+a day for 40 years. My biggest problem is snacking I don't know why but I feel like I should be eating all the time, does that sound normal!!!! I love to cook ( I'm a natural feeder) my poor husband is putting weight on too!! If anyone can help with snack ideas I would be very grateful

Hi and welcome Wendysz

congratulations on giving up the smokes, it's an unfortunate side effect that we develop a taste for food and put on weight but trust me you can control the cravings, for snacking distractions are great, read a book, knit, sew, paint your nails, wash up, come on here and get involved, go for a walk, it does get easier and you can lose the weight.

This forum is very friendly, helpful and supportive, getting involved really does make a difference

You will get a proper welcome from admin shortly

Good luck xx

Hi Wendysz

Welcome to the weight loss forum.

Well done on with stop smoking. A lot of people tend to snack alot out of habit, you just need to break the routine. One thing that helped me in the evenings was to say the kitchen was closed after 7pm so I could only make a drink!

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.

To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.

Have a good first week.

Hello and welcome 😊

Could it be that you are wanting to snack because you are feeling deprived on a restrictive 'diet'? The minute I'm told I can't eat something I want it!

Try to focus on eating healthily rather than a 'diet', eat enough to prevent hunger and keep busy to avoid boredom. After a few weeks you will find the old habits easier to stop 😊

Good luck

Hiya! Well done on ditching the cigarettes! It could be connected to the lost habit that you're wanting to snack and I agree with the idea that you might find life easier if you break the snacking habit altogether rather than just grazing all the time.. easier said than done though right?

For snacks I like the following things that tend to keep me busy a while and not able to do too much damage on account of how long they take to eat!!! -

- frozen berries. My favourite thing ever. So sour and lovely. Cheap, long lasting, and a bit desserty. I put them in a glass and eat them with a teaspoon one by one.

- Carrots and houmous. I like to have sticks in the fridge and dip them in houmous, low fat caesar dressing or chilli sauce. Woo.

- Sesame snaps. 45 cals per wafer and I don't let myself bite them. Takes forever.

- One egg in the cup mixed with mashed half a small avocado salt and pepper. About 170 cals. So rich and filling I'm usually not grazing for a long while after that.

- Yoghurt frozen, as in small tubs. Takes ages to scrape off little slivers to eat.

- Tesco slimasoups. I add loads of white pepper to make it spicy and slower to eat and i eat the first half with a spoon so they take ages to eat/drink and they feel somehow filling.

- Smoked almonds. They are my obsession but they're calorific so watch out.

- water.. Sometimes I don't let myself have any snacks unless I've had a pint of water or a big mug of boiled water. Because really sometimes dehydration feels like a snacky attacky.

Good luck! If you can beat cigarettes you can do anything!!!!
