Attempt no. 55 of 2017 to get on track commences!

I've become one of those dreaded yoyo dieting, proclamation making, junk food binning, relapsing, secret eating, self loathing and unhappy beings for whom I once lacked empathy. Ive lost significant weight before through diet and exercise but slipped (hurtled at speed) back to my former state. I havent managed to stick to anything since that significant success 4 years ago and now im stuck. This year alone I must have started and failed at least 20 diets or programmes. I'm about 5 stone overweight and really feeling the serious health drawbacks of carrying extra weight. I'm ready, really ready, to make a change here. I've joined this forum to get support and make a change.

Welcome Hidden . Join the club - club of dreaded yoyo dieting, proclamation making, junk food binning, relapsing, secret eating, self loathing and (sometimes) unhappy beings. You're in good company. The difference will be that this time, when you get started, we are here to support you. Hopefully Admin will shortly give you all the information for Newbies on here. I recommend you download (and print off if you can) the NHS 12 week plan. Ask questions if anything isn't clear. I use MyFitnessPal (MFP) to log all my calories. It's not always completely accurate, but the main point is that I am logging and watching and being aware of everything I eat. It's a good habit to get into. MFP told me today that I have logged on now for 145 days! Now I have had relapses (Easter, Christmas, holidays and just bad days!) but the difference is I just get back on board and keep going. I only want to lose a stone and I am doing so very slowly, but have lost 10lb over 20 weeks, that's half a pound a week on average, which I am ok with. Others on here have done brilliantly, losing several stone (check out the "badges" on people's names).

So get yourself started - and join us on our downward journey.

Hi and welcome, HappyBibi,

It's time to stop thinking diet and start thinking healthy lifestyle :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the HOME page, bottom on a mobile.

We also run a Daily Diary, where we share our meal and exercise plans for the day. It's a great place to get ideas and to keep us focused. The link can also be found in Events.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

I agree with moreless you need to start thinking permanent lifestyle change. Make your norm healthy good choices with treats that are rare like on holidays. You can do this!

You're not only ready, you started the journey! To be healthy is way much better than dieting. I'm glad you joined us. Good luck.

Thanks all for the nice replies! I can't seem to find the weekly weigh in on here.. think that would help me stay motivated. Confronted the scales this morning.. and it was not pretty. But it's just spurred me on to crack on with changing things. Another little question - the NHS 12 week programme: am I missing something or is it just a chart to fill in daily? With some tips and ideas?

Not what you're looking for?
