Hello Dolly66 and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum π
The problem with diets is coming off the diet! The answer is to not diet, but make small permanent changes to the way you eat. I strongly recommend the Daily Diary post as this is proving very successful for keeping us all in track π
Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.
The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you βΊ
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news βΊ
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for βΊ
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate βΊ
The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page βΊ
You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask βΊ
Best wishes
Anna
I'm in a similar situation. Spent the last 6 weeks making little progress with SW online. I don't know your story, but I've realised just last week that I've not been honest with myself, have been half-hearted about it because my goal seems so far away. I've not , as my son would say, made good choices π. Instead of thinking you have 3 stones to lose, perhaps it would help to break it in to smaller steps. And a focus, what is your motivation to lose weight, think of that goal when things become hard. Are there small changes you can make too in your daily routine? Do you have support? Sorry, lots of questions. I'm sure you can achieve your goal, x
Hi Dolly66
I was a yo-yo dieter for years, but this forum has changed my mind set, I no longer diet I eat healthy, I don't exercise I swim, cycle and walk for fun ππ΅
Instead of 3 stone break it up into small achievable goals say 7lb and when you hit that goal you get a non food reward (I brought a new cycle helmet for my last goalππ)
I decided it's a journey that can take as long as I need to achieve, I've taken the pressure off and am simply enjoying myself, with the help, support and motivation from this forum, stay active on here it really does make a big difference, join in, have a go at the challenges, no one expects miracles, we are all here for each other πͺ there's no such thing as failing just bumps in the road and you can get over them.π£
Good luck you can do it πͺ

When I first joined I was not realising I wasn't even eating enough calories. I wasn't losing any weight and someone asked me how many calories I was eating in a day. When I told them they told me I wasn't eating enough and had to eat somewhere between the amounts stated by the bmi calculator to lose weight because my body would think I was starving it and turns it into body fat instead to keep it going. I decided to give it a go and now I am managing to lose weight and have lost almost 2st. Do make sure you are eating enough at least. Good luck with your weight loss though!
Hi Dolly
Welcome aboard!
This journey you're beginning is ultimately achievable. Take small steps and celebrate every success. I use small non-food rewards and I earn them regularly. This week I had 3 strawberry plants (Β£3) for getting through the day because I'd been struggling.
I find it best to make targets I can achieve every couple of weeks like getting to a round number or dropping a BMI number, doesn't need to be massive.
When I make poor eating choices I shrug and move on straight away. I've eaten that chocolate bar there's nowt I can do about it BUT I don't need to have a second. Enjoy it and move on.
I also try not to deny myself anything just account for it. I had a full English this morning but have adjusted the rest of my day accordingly.
If it's at all possible I'd recommend you move a little every day. I began with C25K but couldn't run for 10 secs never mind a minute, so I started walking around the block after dinner every evening. Tonight I start week 4 of C25K and I'll be attempting to run for 5mins without stopping. Small steps soon add up.
You're here because you want to succeed and you know what YOU CAN DO IT. I have a t-shirt that says 'Actually I can' that's what I mutter as I trudge round on my run.
The very best of luck Dolly π
