A year in a new job and on came the weight

Hi, I've just joined after stepping on the scales to see that I've gained half a stone or more since I've changed my job. I've tried eating less but finding hard to give up chocolate. The older I get the harder it is.

Hello PAW11 and welcome to the weight loss forum ☺ It's normal for our bodies to slow down as we age but weight loss is still possible. Chocolate can be very addictive, and hard to stop once you start 😕

Here are a few suggestions to help you get the best from the forum.

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for ☺

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page ☺

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask ☺

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ☺

Best wishes

Anna

Its true isn't it? Our sweet tooth seems to become sweet TEETH as we get older :)

I usually find though that if I have something else when I am craving, it tends to lessen the craving e.g. I love a frozen blended up with peanut butter and plain yoghurt. SO good and really hits the spot.

Perhaps go for higher grade chocolate and a little less of it?

I've given up chocolate Monday to Friday (as well as all "treat foods") :) as chocolate is my main issue and always throws me over my calorie allowance. It is really hard but everyday I go without it I feel really victorious and I feel like I really appreciate my small chocolate nibble more at the weekend.

Before I started doing this, I had a rule of "no chocolate at work" and would only allow it in the evenings. This way I didn't double-eat the chocolate :) would this be a method that could help you? Then you can look forward to a little treat at the end of the day without worrying about messing up your calories too much?

New jobs can be very stressful and lead us to crave sweet and salty foods that we know are delicious but don't do us any good! :) you're at a point now where you can start to make positive changes! :)

I tend to crave chocolate after a busy, stressful week. It's far too easy to snack at work during the day . Rather than give chocolate up completely which would be a real nightmare for me only having it at the weekend sounds good. 😊

HI Dave1961, I decided to write down what I eat in my diary every day. Someone suggested eating 85% dark chocolate. Thanks for the tips.
