Getting older and the weight piles on??

Hello everyone. I'm new here and decided that perhaps "talking" to others will help me on my weight loss road.

I've always been stick thin, that is, until I reached 60 (3.5 years ago). When it seems that overnight I had a flabby tum, which I definitely do not like. I've always been around 9stone and was 5' 7" but recently seem to be shrinking, 5'6" at diabetic clinic 3 months ago. I now weigh 11st 14lbs (Yes I know that's **stone but can't say I'm there!!!)

I am a type 2 diabetic, suffer from chronic pain syndrome, spondylitis (so) in my cervical spine and degenerative disease of my entire spine , oh and osteoarthritis in most joints!!

PLEASE is there any help out there? I eat a healthy diet due to the diabetes but unfortunately I am unable to walk any distance without pain. Can anyone help?

I apologise for my first post sounding so negative but thought I would get it all out of the way immediately.

Am looking forward to hearing all your news etc.

Bye for now. x x 🐈🐈

Hello Grandma24and1 and welcome.

You've come to the right place for support with your weight loss and definitely no need for apologies. You're not being negative when you're letting people know what you're having to deal with as it only helps them understand you.

I suspect, that whilst you're eating a healthy diet, it's a case of eating and drinking a bit more than your body can manage. Since I joined here in Jan, I have tweaked some of the things I eat and drink but the larger part of my journey has been to control portion sizes. Exercise is an assist to weight loss but isn't a key component.

Anyway, an administrator will respond to your post and provide you with information on how you may plan to lose weight and also how to get the most out of this forum.

Feel free to post any questions you might have and any of your thoughts, ideas, recipes etc..

Good luck on your journey.

Thank you for your positive response. I think this is all going to help me loose, well at least a stone. Mind you, I would have to look for some new clothes, as everything I have is for a size I have now had to go into, mainly for comfort for the summer!!

Thank you again. x x

More than welcome.

Wouldn't it be a shame if you had to buy some smart new clothes ;)

Morning Grandma24and1

Welcome to the weight loss forum.

There's no need to apologise for sounding negative I think we all feel like that at the begining. Come and join in with today's weigh in to record your starting weight, you can find it on the Home page on the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile.

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.

To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.

Have a good first week.

Hello and welcome to this forum. You are certainly in the right place to share problems and the successes-along-the-way. There is a lot of support to be had and lots of good advice. I am sure that you will soon find an improvement. For the time being enjoy strutting about in your new clothes even if you are looking forward to shrinking again. Then you can bring out old favourites and also treat yourself to new things as a reward.

It was an eye opener to me when I joined the forum a long time back. A great many people gained weight suddenly as a side issue to medical problems or sudden happenings, and so often the medication itself seems to produce weight increases. But, be assured, it can be done and you will find lots of encouraging success stories on here. So, welcome, and good wishes for weight loss success.

Welcome and good luck on your journey Grandma not much to add to the below but maybe you could consider swimming as opposed to long walks. My local pool does some water aerobics classes which I understand are really good fun if you don't like swimming up and down, they also do Adult or female only classes

Thank you everyone for your replies to my first post.

Some excellent ideas, I will attempt to follow the 12 week plan but already I'm going to have to delay the start due to a few days of chronic pain and fatigue . i am going to start again on Monday, when hopefully I'll be feeling a tad better!

Wishing you all a good day and a fantastic weekend.

Take care. Love 'n huge. x
