I was on the forum quite some time back so while some of the oldies will remember me a lot of you will have no idea who I am...or how charming I am....or incredibly handsome ... or... well you get the idea
Enough of that baloney.
I have always struggled with depression and up until a couple of years ago tried to fix that with huge quantities of food and alcohol.
I gave up drinking 3 years ago because I ... well I was an alcoholic no two ways about it
I assumed life would magically fix itself once I wasn't sucking down a couple litres of wine a day but not so much. Apparently some time is required for healing so here I am a couple years later and finally starting to feel good and much more content with life.
Like everyone, I have good and bad days and if I could describe Salted Caramel Chocolate Mousse from my local supermarket and how it has magical properties to improve the mood you would be asking me to airmail it to you....until you look at the scale two days later and realise there might be a downside when you consider a serve is 1/3 of your calories for the day!
Sorry I guess I am kind of blathering because I am not sure how to reintroduce myself but I am sure as I go through and start commenting etc. I will settle in again.
But I seem to have turned a corner and am no longer craving rubbish and when I do I don't really enjoy because I know I will feel bad at the end. Even today I thought to myself "I haven't had a treat in almost 2 weeks and I am tired maybe I will get a kebab and some chips" and immediately went and bought some organic chicken breast and made a nice healthy dinner! Who is this person I thought to myself (kind of smugly I will admit ) lol
Since my last weigh in 7 months ago I have lost 7 kilos (145 down to 138).
Admittedly most of that has been lost in the last 4 weeks but nice to see I have gone down not up.
Anyway thats enough from me and I look forward to getting to know you all (again).

Dave!!! Welcome back, my little Antipodean friend!! It's wonderful to hear how positive you are and how you've turned a very large corner!! Good for you!
Things have changed quite a lot since you were last here, so I'm going to give you the current info and let you do lots of reading
Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.
Take a look at the 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.
We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.
It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey
Hi Dave,
Great to hear from and congrats on the 7kg loss.
Life sometimes is very hard and it's so easy to rely on past negative coping strategies ( been there done that and up a good stone as a result ). So pleased you are feeling so positive {{{{hug}}}}.
Still battling on in cold and rainy Newcastle Upon Tyne, would love to say I was winning the lifestyle change but not 😳. Determined though and taking it a day at a time 😀
Dave - I am SOOOOO excited to see you - but am just going to dash out the door, but I'll pop back later to read your post and reply properly then - Welcome back!!!!!
(If you're wondering who I am, my old name on here was 'Lowcal')
Well 1st off Dave1961 a huge WELL DONE!! for quitting the booze. You should be well roud of yourself and have every right to feel smug. Well done matey. Well done on the weightloss too and thank you for not going into too much detail about that pudding!
I just joined a couple of weeks ago so i have no clue on how charming you might or might not be! You are certainly a trier and that, I think is the thing we all must do. Just keep trying.
As I said earlier, I'm really happy to see you again! Welcome back, and I have just read your post properly now - and am thrilled to hear you've lost 7kg (most of that in the last 4 weeks) - you're onto a roll now! (A nice healthy one!!!)
How is your garden? I remember how you cleared up your back yard, and had a lovely garden going on - I hope that's going well too.
Really great that you're back, I know I keep saying that, but I am looking forward to chatting again, and I'd like to wish you a great week ahead.
Good luck for this week, and Onwards and downwards.
You are amazing and well done on the loss. These months have been so tough for you but welcome back. I very rarely post on here any more as to be honest don't care for the change BUT still review the posts now and again.
As for myself, still exercising like fury and keeping fit and NOT gaining weight. Probably at a point where I don't want to lose much more but five fitness sessions a week is giving me tone and shape.
You Dave are absolutely fabulous and will still reach those dreams. Great work and keep on posting. Big hugs mate. X
Welcome back, Dave! I remember your battles every evening on the way home with the chocolate bars and, of course, your garden. Glad you've got a kick start to the new you. It would be horrible to start from an even worse place. What was that thing you used to do? "Just for one day" or something along those lines. You had some great ideas - we need to resurrect a few!
Dave 1961 Im a Newbie here but am finding the site a great help. Life is a process of learning and some of us take longer than others but as long as we get there in the end without having damaged ourselves thats what matters.Even if some damage has been done to our bodies through our foolish ways its never too late to rectify it Very well done You now seem to have your head in the right place which is half the hard battle Keep it there and onwards and downwards for us all
