Hi, I am finally taking the first step in changing my life, and to me that needs to start here, with me. I went out for a family celebration meal yesterday and found that none of my nice clothes fit anymore, I'm too big. That's when it hit me, for years I try diets and then give up for some reason or another and when I stop I put back on all the weight ive lost and more, resulting in where I am today. Ive never done this before, as in open up and talk about things but decided that it will probably help with the process. So I'm making the change by starting this NHS "diet", here goes....................

Hi Chellesbelles
Welcome to the weight loss forum.
Well done for taking the first step and I understand how daunting it can be to talk about it.
Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.
Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.
Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.
Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.
We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.
To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.
Have a good first week.

I,ll try rubbing in horse muck if it burns off the fat!!! Seriously I struggle counting calories, I wonder if others do too?
On a different note I will be on the TV Debate on thurds 18th at 8pm asking Ministers questions( bit like question time) I have been given a slot to ask a question so watch out for Nurse Gladys and put a face to a anme.(what did I sau abot spellings)!!!
I,ll love coming across to this Forum daily and hopefully reading and encouraging others to keep going.
Good luck hun, keep intouch we can swap pluses and hopefully, no minuses!
thank you, will do
Good luck. After many attempts to shed the weight and yo yo dieting, putting on more weight after each try, your story sounds very familiar. Different things suit different people so it's worth reading as many posts as you can on the forum to get ideas.
What has helped me the most is to think, right from the very start, what I can and can't sustain both in terms of eating patterns and exercise and it has helped tremendously.
A real breakthrough came when someone in this community told me I was eating too few calories (1350 when I first started!) and suggested I try the NHS BMI calculator to work out my ideal calorie range for my age and activity level. It suggested I eat considerably more and I have lost weight steadily over the last 12 months without feeling hungry all the time and without sticking after the first couple of stone as I usually do and have never had to dip below 1700 calories. I also tried to get my lifestyle as healthy as I can, making small, simple steps that built up over time to improve my way of life but always with the idea in mind that if I can't keep it going in the long term then there's very little point.
I tried out lots of different exercises until I found activities which I loved as hobbies so they have never felt like a chore just to work off calories and it's been brilliant to find out that I love walking and dancing.
I don't know if any of this will help you, but thought I'd reply just in case. I hope this time the weight stays off both of us for good and we can finally throw that yo yo away for ever x
Hi and welcome Chellesbelles
I'm guessing from your post you are another yo-yo dieter, we lose, we gain, we lose, we gain more 😱😯 hopefully you will find as I have that yo-yo dieting isn't the answer.
So having been given some fantastic advice I am not on a diet.
I calorie count, I eat healthy, but no food it banned as long as I can count it in my daily calories, I've been doing sugar swaps, small changes an apple instead of crisps, rice cakes instead of chocolate, a walk instead of watching tv, I regularly borrow the grandchildren for a park trip, every small change needs to be sustainable so go slowly it will soon become habit
You also need to be having fun, (if you like swimming go but if you hate it you will give up) you need to find something you enjoy.
I have found by not setting exact dates (I got to lose x in 7days etc) I've taken the pressure off I'm losing weight at my own pace, having fun and can't thank this forum enough
My tip is definitely stay active on the forum, Join a challenge, the daily diary, a weigh in, help someone out or just have a chat. It really does make a difference
That just leaves me to wish you the best of luck
Kat xx
