Gutted :(

Just been to get weighed and gained 1lb this is after doing Couch to 5k and other strengthening exercises and digging/weeding in my garden. Nurse said its muscle mass building. I was losing weight when I wasn't running but since i started it Ihave gained. This sucks.

Oh I feel for you Hidden 😕 It's really tough when the scales don't cooperate.

But the nurse is right, weight loss isn't linear, see this post for details of the 'whoosh' effect. healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh.......

Also try to use other measures, how your clothes feel, how much energy you have, how healthy you feel, especially doing the c25k ☺

Best wishes

Anna

The 'whoosh' thing is really interesting - I missed that post originally, thanks for sharing!

I'm completely with IndigoBlue61 . I'm assuming you're keeping within your calorie range and if so, then that one pound is nothing to be concerned about as you can only be getting healthier.

As Anna also mentioned, if you aren't taking measurements, you can still gauge how your clothes are now fitting.

Losing weight isn't linear, especially when there is exercise involved as well. Additionally, as you build up muscle that will also increase your metabolism (ability to burn fat).

Keep going, you're doing well.

The figure presented by the scales isn't necessarily a true reflection of overall progress, so don't fixate upon it.

Since you've started running, alongside the inclusion of resistance exercise, it's natural to expect a gradual increase in overall muscle mass, while also serving to improve bone density, off-setting what may have been lost in body fat.

As such, don't abandon regular exercise over fears of initial weight gain, since the amount of fat expended each week/month will eventually exceed muscle gained, particularly if a calorie deficit continues to be maintained from recommended maximum (or TDEE).

Instead, allow the fit and feel of clothing to be a greater indictor of success; if an item of clothing flatters current composition more than it did a few weeks ago, for example, exercise and calorie reduction is working.
