This time last week I stumbled upon a post on the MyFitnessPal community. The title was eat more, weigh less. It outlines the benefits of strength training. Most of my excess weight is carried above my waist so I have been wanting to focus my exercise on this area for a while. My broad shoulders make lifting weights pretty easy. I decided to give it a go. So I recalculated my daily calories which showed that I could eat 800 more per day. The program recommended 4 sessions in the gym on weights. I'm fortunate that my work gym has several pieces of sytrength equipment so I worked out a 45 minute circuit and did that every day. I started to look at my macronutrients and was surprised that my carb intake was around 60% of my daily total. I want to push up my protein so planned all my meals carefully and ate really well. At the weekend someone suggested that I look at stronglifts 5x5 beginner program so I'm up ready to give that a go this week. It focuses more on floor weights rather than the machines and involves a day lifting and a day resting the muscles. So monday, Wednesday and Friday doing stronglifts and Tuesday and Thursday with some light treadmill work.
Weighed in this morning and despite eating 800 calories more each day I'm down a further 2 pounds this week. So 46 pounds lost since April. I'm chuffed with that. I have already been extremely motivated by this forum and all the incredible stories. I'm almost a quarter of the way to my 200 pounds total so this has given me another huge motivational boost. Strength training isn't for everyone but it's ideal for me.
