Surprised by first week

This time last week I stumbled upon a post on the MyFitnessPal community. The title was eat more, weigh less. It outlines the benefits of strength training. Most of my excess weight is carried above my waist so I have been wanting to focus my exercise on this area for a while. My broad shoulders make lifting weights pretty easy. I decided to give it a go. So I recalculated my daily calories which showed that I could eat 800 more per day. The program recommended 4 sessions in the gym on weights. I'm fortunate that my work gym has several pieces of sytrength equipment so I worked out a 45 minute circuit and did that every day. I started to look at my macronutrients and was surprised that my carb intake was around 60% of my daily total. I want to push up my protein so planned all my meals carefully and ate really well. At the weekend someone suggested that I look at stronglifts 5x5 beginner program so I'm up ready to give that a go this week. It focuses more on floor weights rather than the machines and involves a day lifting and a day resting the muscles. So monday, Wednesday and Friday doing stronglifts and Tuesday and Thursday with some light treadmill work.

Weighed in this morning and despite eating 800 calories more each day I'm down a further 2 pounds this week. So 46 pounds lost since April. I'm chuffed with that. I have already been extremely motivated by this forum and all the incredible stories. I'm almost a quarter of the way to my 200 pounds total so this has given me another huge motivational boost. Strength training isn't for everyone but it's ideal for me.

Very well done! Interesting story too, glad it's working for you! 😊😊😊

I have found myfitnesspal so helpful and it allows you to eat so much more so you dont go off the rails and binge or anything. I have lost quite a bit of weight with it and am no longer considering baritric surgery. It made me realsie that all the things I had done before to lose weight had not allowed me enough food or choice. It is so much easier. I was recommended it when seen in regards to beriatric surgery. I was also advised to practice mindfulness.

Well done 🎉

Very well done! I am going to try and start some weight training this week. I used to do it regularly before I became ill 6 years ago, and I found it was a great way to tone up and lose inches, as muscle burns fat :) The only thing I did notice was that despite dropping inches, my weight loss evened out after a few months. The downside of muscle weighing more than fat! Good luck with your journey :)

Congrats on the 46lb that's massive Kenny plus it's great you have found an exercise that suits you and one you can enjoy.👍😊

This is a great result. From what you;ve written, you obviously thought about your exercise and diet routine a lot, so it's good that you get the results of your hard work.

I am a puny female with very weak arms, but I think weight training is for everybody. I do use the weights for arm exercises, but it is pitiful at times! Just have to keep at it.

Well done 👏
