Hi, I'm starting my new lifestyle today. I'm a little overweight and could be fitter. I always find it hard sticking to 'diets'....just the word puts me off and makes me want to eat!! :0(
I'm hoping this time I won't fall off the wagon. It looks like there is quite a good support network here, so that will help a lot.

Hello Jo_Nana1 and welcome to the weight loss forum ☺ You will notice the word "diet" isn't used much around here ☺ I am following a healthy eating plan to get fitter and healthier, absolutely not on a diet!! 😊
The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺
The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, but they are quite busy. If you wish to take part Sunday is the quietest day but you are welcome to join any day. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the 'home' page, or at the very bottom (after all the posts) on a mobile.☺
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ☺
You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask ☺
Hi Jo_Nana1. You've nailed it exactly by calling it a "new lifestyle". I started on Jan 1 and have called it a lifestyle change from day 1... I refuse to call it a diet. This is the first time that I've got my act together in a couple of decades and I'm certain that this mindset is a large contributing factor.
I have always struggled to lose weight Jo_Nana1 , this is the first site I have been to that I have managed to lose weight. Please don't look at this as a diet, no this is a lifestyle change and I am determined to continue even once I have finished as I know how my tastes change and I go off many things. I'm no longer enjoying sugars like I used to years ago, I swapped sugars for sweeteners Many years ago and I used to have 2 sugars in drinks and now I have managed to change this to 1 sweetener. I also lost 3 stone when I swapped them and stuck to it. I now don't even like sugary foods much either so feel great by this. Just this alone made me much healthier.
Make sure you eat enough calories also as I never used to eat enough and always continued to put weight on because my body thought I was starving it so turned what I did eat into bodyfat instead. This actually weighs more though. Check how many you should have on the NHS bmi calculator.
