Hi, Have just joined as although I have lost 1stone 10lbs I need some more accurate weight loss info. I lost half a stone myself, then joined a weight loss group & lost some more, but have become increasingly disillusioned with what I call their "nutrobabble" which encourages unlimited amounts of pasta, rice etc and my weight loss has slowed to virtually nothing (just 1lb) over last 5 weeks. I recognise I need to practice portion control, and so have decided to go it alone as in nutrobabble world portion control is seriously "off plan"! I have approx. another 3 stone to lose which is a bit daunting (overwhelming?). I am late 50s and feeling much healthier with the loss I have achieved already. Another 3 stone and I reckon I'll be feeling about 30 years old ha ha! Why the Middle? I'm Midlands based.
Newbie in the Middle!: Hi, Have just... - Weight Loss Support
Newbie in the Middle!
Hello Kazslimmer and welcome to the weight loss forum ☺ Well done on losing almost 2 stone, that is a fabulous achievment ☺ I think you are right about portion control, in my opinion, it is the only way to go ☺ However, being part of this forum means you are not going alone ☺☺☺
Take a look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for ☺
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺
The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the 'home' page, or at the very bottom (after all the posts) on a mobile.☺ JiminyCricket is hosting today's Tuesday Trimmers group. ☺
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ☺
You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge, or a one stone badge to reflect your loss so far ☺
If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask ☺
Best wishes
Anna

Hi Kazslimmer i would like to say good luck and all the best with your journey, if you have any questions please do make sure you do ask as there will always be someone around who is likely to have an answer as there are many people who try different things. You have found the right place here for support..!🤞👍👏😀
Wow, kazslimmer. You have done so well on your own already. You will find everyone on here very supportive and encouraging. Do have a go with the 12 week plan, and start calorie counting. I use MyFitnessPal. It also tells you about the nutritional content of what you have eaten, if you feel a need to make a slow transition from your previous group. With calorie counting over the past 10 weeks since I started, I have gradually got used to sticking to smaller portion sizes and working out which food have less calories (fruit and veg, chicken and fish) and which use up my daily allowance far too quickly (pasta, rice, bread, cakes and biscuits). But I don't deny myself anything, I keep careful tabs and (very slowly for me) the weight is coming off. Stick with us, together we can all do,it!
Thanks for your input, that's exactly why I decided to move as I was eating so much pasta, rice etc that I had stopped losing weight. I am a slow loser too and also tend to fluctuate, but I have to keep remembering to look at the bigger picture ... BIGGER huh? Like I need reminding!!! You're right, we can do it.
Slow and steady wins the race, kazslimmer. 👍
Just a quick thank you for my Newbie badge, beginning to find my way round and first weigh in next week!!! Hope everyone is having a good weekend. We are decorating, keep telling myself it's burning up calories ha ha!
