I have lost a lot of weight naturally over 10 stone and I got a number on the scales I like too see . I have kind of adapted a fasting lifestyle that works for me . Also I cut out a lot of food groups dairy red meat etc . I didn't over indulge at Christmas I am not the type and if I had some Xmas pudding it was a small spoon I've got good at taster like portions especially of sweet things . I've eaten some different foods out of my "norm" because of course its Xmas and routines etc change. However I jumped on the scales today and have put on around 5/6lbs now I know this isn't a lot to some people and also I'm not sure if my scales are working great because I got 3 different weights but I've definitely put this weight on . If I am honest I am devastated as I have maintained for so long (2years) at a weight I am happy with.. could it be my hormones (due on soon ) and obviously a combination of different type of foods . But I want to get rid of this and get my number back to where I am happy , I will admit I get a little obsessed with this and look at my stomach in the mirror to see if I can notice any weight gain I know in my head it is silly but I just want to be back at those numbers now I feel like I am getting fat and I CANNOT go back kind of deflated tbh

Gained some weight need some help .
Hi Peanutbutterplease,
First of all well done on finding a way to lose and maintain, the best way is one you can live with readily day to day.
Next, yes, hormones can play a big part in things like water retention, so my advice would be to try and focus on things outside the numbers, like how your clothes feel and how you feel in yourself. The scales aren't always your best friend, and can fluctuate from day to day.
You will have seen the different groups we have on here, and if you use the link I've included, you will be able to have another look around. We have some very supportive members who, I'm sure, will give you lots of reassurance and share their own experiences (it does include the Weigh In which you can choose to join in with if you think it will help).
Best wishes 😊🍀
Hey PBP!
It's SO EASY to become obsessed with the number on the scales, and the truth is that we can often feel like we overindulge a small amount and feel like we've gained an extra 30lbs...
As you mentioned, hormones can create fluctuations, but my guess would be that the change of foods would also play a part. Eating more carbohydrates than you normally would will cause your body to retain more liquid. The level of salt you consume is another factor.
All in all, if your body has been getting fueled in a certain way for a long period of time and this suddenly changes, a change of weight is expected....Do I believe you gained 6lbs of fat? Probably not - and that's the good news.
I would suggest drinking LOTS of water (it sounds counter intuitive when your body is retaining extra water to drink more, but the key to releasing water retention is to show your body there is plenty in supply so it doesn't need to hold on to it.
To give you some perspective on my own journey, between Christmas and New Year I have been eating and drinking differently to normal. Here is my weight yesterday (1st Jan) and today, 2nd Jan:
1st Jan - 86.8 kg ( 191.4lbs )
2nd Jan - 84.9 kg ( 187.2lbs )
Difference in 24 hours: - 4.2lbs
There is no way I lost 4lbs of fat in 24 hours, it's just my body adjusting.
Give it a week of your normal way of eating and see where you are. I have a feeling you will feel a lot better about the situation!
Hello Peanutbutterplease and welcome back.
Congratulations on loosing and maintaining 10 Stones.
I wouldn't stress over that little gain over the holidays and also wouldn't change anything in my meals at this time.
You noticed a gain and also that you ate different the past weeks. That's the first step.
I would just go back to my normal eating habit for the next month and wait what happens. Does the scale slowly move back in the right direction or are there more gains?
Depends on that outcome I would change my diet and exercise routine or not.
You're in good company, so many including me gained some weight with Christmas.
I gained about 6-8 lb. but for me only going back to my normal meals changed the direction of the scale and I already lost everything.
Good luck on your journey.
I feel the same when I see a gain on the scales. But it really is just a hiccup because you have eaten differently the last few weeks. Now you just have to return to your usual routine and I’m sure you’ll get rid of the excess weight. You’ve done it before. You’ve got this 👍
It has happened to me after losing 6 stone. I kept doing what I had been doing and I lost it again. Just a fluctuation. DRinking plenty of water will help you lose excess water weight which I expect this is, If it continues it would be worth getting your hormones checked. Post any results from blood tests on thyroid uk for expert patients opinion as GPs very poor at diagnosing hormone issues.
Thank you all for you're replies I know in mu head it is because of the different foods even though they was in moderation however they was different ! I do start to obsess over this and sadly weigh every day I know this really doesn't help . I just need to relax abit get the (monthly)out the way and see where I am at .
Keep your head up peanutbutter. You have achieved it , so remember it is very doable again. I know it's very hard to not be obsessed. I also look at my belly because, because that's where I carry most of mine. We're going to do this. I tell myself every day" believe it and you will achieve it".Racquel
Hello peanut butterAs you got three different weights on the scales I think it would be a good idea to get a new scale. Then you may likely find that you have not put on as much weight or no weight.
If when you get a new scale and you still find you are gaining I would check with your doctor because an underactive thyvoid can cause you to put on weight.
Try not to worry if you have been losing you can continue to lose it now things are back to normal. Have a happy new year.
