How do you keep motivation? How can you get it back?
Motivation: How do you keep motivation... - Weight Loss Support
Motivation
Hi and welcome, Carmen
You haven't said how long you've been trying to lose weight, or why you've lost motivation, but this community is what keeps most of us going
Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news
Take a look at the 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate
We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too
It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey
That's a very good question...and probably has many different answers depending on who you ask. Some do it to get healthier, they've had a health scare, they might want to get fitter so they can play with their children and see them grow up and for others it might be that they want to fit into smaller clothes.
My motivation originally was to avoid getting ill; my grandfather died from a heart attack when he was young (my father was 15 years old when his dad died), my father has had 3 heart attacks and he's not yet 50 years old. Knowing that I was obese and my lifestyle was so unhealthy made me think. I saw my father wired up in hospital, attached to all these machines and not even able to use the toilet. It was a real eye opener. Thankfully, I'm healthy and I have since lost over 4 stone. I am 7 lbs away from a healthy BMI now too, so things have improved. I have got fitter and can run 5k now, something I've not done since I was a teenager. Now I would argue my motivation is different...I feel I've made huge improvements to my health and no longer fear I'm going to suffer a heart attack young...Dr has reassured me and I enjoy a much healthier diet and lifestyle. Now I want to get to a size 10, be in a healthy BMI and If I am being very honest with myself my motivation now is probably more cosmetic than health related. I LOVE being able to sit on public seating on buses and trains and still have room to spare...I love that people don't mind sitting next to me anymore because I don't take up extra space. I enjoy being able to squeeze myself out of the car door when there's little parking space...in the past even parking the car was a challenge for my housemate as I needed lots of room to get out and accidentally hitting other cars with the door was almost inevitable...not now.

Thank you Sazkia! You really helped me get motivated using your personal story! You were amazing to stop that habbit just looking around to the people you love! I am sure you will get what you want not only in this field, but in any other field in life! Wish you best of luck!!! <3

Fabulous stuff Sazkia, you are definitely one of the inspirations, thank you.
I think mine is the fact that I'd feel ashamed of myself if I didn't keep myself in shape.
By continually reminding yourself just why you're doing this, while understanding that you do possess an element of control.
After all, you're the one who decides whether to go to the gym or refrain, you're the one who routinely maintains a daily calorie deficit, while also being the one who decides upon what you eat on a daily basis.
Furthermore, by adopting healthier eating habits and increasing knowledge of nutrition as you go, you're not just committing to losing weight through diet and exercise in the shorter term, you're making a longer-term commitment to the management of weight, by ensuring that previous lifestyle choices don't become commonplace.
my motivation was when i was diagnoses with high blood pressure and put on tablets... it was a definate wakeup call...
i took pics when i started and ive put them on here 3mths later...

when you see how your body is changing it really keeps you motivated to keep going no matter what it says on the scales.
good luck x
Hi, I echo what many have said above. Be honest. Ask yourself, why do you want to lose weight and do you really want to. We all know the benefits of maintaining a healthy weight but sometimes the journey getting there can seem daunting. Remember, the only person you are losing weight for is you. Don't be ashamed of how and who you are. Let vanity be the other persons worry. Not yours. I look in the mirror and ask, am I happy with how I look. Yes. Always. Losing weight is for my benefit, not others.
As for this forum, remain here and you will receive all the encouragement you need to stay on track so that you may achieve your goal.
So, eat less, eat wisely and good luck
