Sharing my motivation.

Candystripe profile image
ā€¢26 Replies

In June last year, I wanted to a buy a blouse that I really fell in love with but sadly it was way too small. I decided there and then that if the blouse didn't fit me then I would fit the blouse and bought it anyway!

At that time I was 18.5 stone.

Today I have changed my profile picture of me with that very same blouse on and five stone lighter.

I really wanted it so badly that I was determined to succeed and can't thank all the wonderful people on this site who supported me and made it possible. Prin, Lowcal, jenette are to name but a few.........Thank you all. XXX

Yes, I still have more to lose but for all you doubters out there who need encouragement and think that you can't do it , well you can if you really want it badly enough!

I thought this post might help.

wow, well done! Impressed by your weight loss and clear determination. A year sounds like a long time, but I guess focusing on a day at a time it soon passes.

Thanks for sharing, it certainly makes me feel more motivated, with 4 stones to shed xx

Five stone!! Amazing. Well done. I hope you will be the size you would like to be very soon.

A year is a long time to keep motivated; do you have any tips for maintaining motivation over such a long period?

Candystripe

Yes I do have tips!

1) Make your goals small & achievable. Do not set a final target weight! At 18stone 4.5lbs my goal was to lose 5lbs which took me into the 17's. Then it had to be 17st 11.5 lbs which was half a stone. Then 17st 4.5lbs which was the stone. REWARD for yourself because you feel really proud and your clothes are getting too big. Great motivation in itself to carry on. Even now I don't have a goal weight, just a target of below 13stone is good to work towards.

2) Not all days are good days, not all weeks are good weeks even. During my year we moved back to the UK from abroad, my mother died and my husband had to return to the Middle East. Stress is inevitable BUT recognise it and get back on that calorie counting asap. You are not a failure just because you gained some weight back!

3)I was too ashamed of my shape to go to a gym, so went walking, bought bits and pieces such as a second hand exercise bike, dyna band etc which was good but then when I came back to the UK I felt a little more confident to look at gyms and realised that big girls/boys work out too and the thin ones applaud you for doing it and try to help. My only regret is I wish that I had done it sooner!

4) Don't deprive yourself of something that you crave. If you would normally have a chocolate bar at night while watching the television either substitute it for fruit/raw veggies or cut the chocolate bar in pieces to last through the week. Always count those calories though........you can't pretend that you didn't eat it!

5) Prepare and plan those meals and your shopping list ahead of time. Don 't just "wing it"!

6) Join our weekly weigh in on a Monday which is usually led by Lowcal (you will see it on Mondays post) or if she is away then Prin does an equally grand job.

I'm sure there are lots of other little words of advice but just be true to yourself.

Good luck everyone X

Well done :-) I am so pleased for you because I know how hard you have worked to get to where you are. Your post must be such an inspiration for those who don't believe that it can be done. Don't lose too much more or you will have to buy a smaller blouse!! :-) Mags x

My pleasure. You really want to do it I know you do so carry on regardless. Only you can make it happened.

Please post on the weigh in on Monday so I know how you're doing and can keep motivating you when needed, not that you'll need me.

Candystripe - End of Year Report

Candy came into the class with real determination and a clear goal

She consistently posted positive losses throughout the year and weighed in regularly to keep focused

Despite a gain and family crisis Candy did not lose momentum and has a new figure to boast

She remains focused, and always has an encouraging word for members new and old a like.

For want of a nail the shoe was lost. - for the want of a blouse 5 stone was lost!

WELL DONEx

Candystripeā€¢ in reply tofussybird

Yes it will show as the post "Please join me for weigh in Monday 29th June".

This week Prin will be holding the reins as Lowcal is on holiday. Just introduce yourself, let us know how you're doing and your goals for the week. It's a great way to keep in touch and motivation.

See you Monday! X

Candystripe profile image
Candystripeā€¢ in reply tofussybird

Yes that's another tip.....keep busy, especially evenings and while Masterchef is on with all the food!!!

fussybird profile image
fussybird

I'm okay in the evenings, fortunately, as I get indigestion that stops me from laying down flat if I've eaten less than 3 hours before going to bed, a good dieting aid. I love cooking, so no processed food anyway, but this week I've started weighing my portions and have realised that I was underestimating with some dishes what an 'average' portion is lol x
