Motivation means the reason for doing something, so that comes from within you. Maybe give some thought to why you want to lose weight and how things will be different when you do so. Some people write it down and put it somewhere they'll see it often, or they use a picture or an item of clothing as a prompt. Would something like that work for you?
You joined us in February but we haven't seen you since so I hope you'll take advantage of the huge amount of information and support on offer here.
The Welcome Newbies post will help you find your way around healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and I recommend joining a weekly weigh-in on the day of your choice, and using the Daily Diary for help with meal planning
Please also read this information about security/privacy, especially as you have left your post unlocked healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...
Thank you, I’m going to have a look on those posts and familiarise myself with them. I have a few photos I could use but it feels so far from where I am now I don’t like seeing them 😣 I will have a think x
For motivation, watch this short video online “The Skinny on Obesity episode 3” and if it makes sense to you, watch the rest of the series and then seriously consider eating fewer carbs and using healthy fats to stop you feeling hungry.

Know just how you feel
Ive flitted on and off this site for the last few years and it is not through lack of support it has loads but
For me its life and my mental health
Let's hope finding this site again helps us both
Once I get to a certain weight my limbs start aching and as I spend a lot of time on them its no good
I also had a well woman appt and was told my cholestrol was a little up so ....
I've had some councelling and just started on anti D medication for the first time
Been on it a month having clearer thoughts again and now have started choosing healthier options
Hi, kath50, I see you used to be a member of the Saturday weigh-in team. They're such a supportive bunch and they will welcome back, and appreciate your support, too.
Can I make a suggestion? Whatever you do this time, do something different, not whatever you've done previously to lose weight as it hasn't worked.
my advice is aim to lose just 1 lb to start. do this by asking yourself what am I eating daily that I could do without, just one small thing like the type of milk or spread you use or substitute a certain dessert. Alongside this if you have time increase the distance you walk every day, just a bit but keep it up every day.
This is how I got started just 3 weeks ago.
When you lose the first 1lb the guys on the forum give you so much praise you just want to keep trying for more weight loss and fitness.
Forget the 4 stone.....think small and you'll acheive more
Great suggestion: small goals, one at a time, all build up
For me, ditching low fat spreads and yoghurts and going for the full fat version, and more fats generally, has made a huge difference to my enjoyment of my meals, and feeling fuller longer
If you "slim smart" weight loss is not so hard! It is not all about motivation and masochism.
Some of us here find that what works is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:
Break your overall aim up like so- find the big why or many reasons why you want to lose weight. Could be what you’ve already said. Then think about small achievable goal for the next 4-6 weeks and steps you could take. E.g. make one change a week (one of mine was less/ no alcohol), snacks, fasting etc btw has taken me 6 months to a year to try some of these so you don’t have to rush with the aim of losing maybe half a stone in 6 weeks only a suggestion you decide.
Then habit form and use this forum as much as possible.
I’ve had depression and my tips are outdoor exercise even walking. Seeing daylight at this time of year is so important.
Cabbage contains serotonin and other foods can be used to support mental health and they are also all healthy lucky that!
Consider joining the happiness challenge as it can help to rewrite your thinking making yourself look for the positive.
I find what works best for me is planning.. i plan my week for food/excercise and i stick to it no matter how tired i am or what kind of day ive had. I may not do as much as id plan but i do something... really makes a difference to my mindset.. also i find doing some form of excercise firt thing in morning really sets my day up x
There's plenty of information here to help you on your journey, just follow this link to our chat thread and a list of all the activities we run. We've found active participation to be key to success, especially with our weigh-ins and Daily Diary.
Hey Caticorn welcome aboard! I too suffer from depression and anxiety so I know how difficult it can be just getting thru the day, never mind getting it together enough to lose weight! But this site makes such a difference. Everyone is so supportive and there's so much going on with different challenges etc.
I joined on 22/10/19 and am already 12lbs down, but not just that: my whole attitude towards food and how to lose weight has changed. I'm kind to myself now. I listen to my body and have totally fallen in love with intermittent fasting. My mental health is better. I know that if I can't get out and face people, I can always come on here and find stuff to read and get involved with. But tbh since i joined here, I've wanted to get out more! To be more active getting my fitbit steps in and just generally being back in the game.
Good luck with your journey and finding what works for you. Pick a small but meaningful goal (for me it was getting below 200lbs) and trust me, you'll get there! 🐱🦄
Hi, i bought a second hand bike and a bike stand (£49.99 from Aldi) so i can use it indoors. I started using it yesterday while watching Mama Mia. I intend to use it every day instead of sitting on the sofa. It doesn't take up much space.... delighted with myself that I got off my bum and did someting. No one else can do it for me. Some things we can control, some things we can't. ..... a day at a time. Good luck. Xx
Walking did it for me from virtually not walking at all to 10000 steps per day daughter got me a cheap Fitbit type thing feel great I'm off insulin (on it for 25 years) also got a cheap exercise bike. Stopped eating takeaways treat myself to no more than 2 a month. Lost over 6st can buy clothes at primark. If I can do this you can don't be too hard on yourself. If you want to ask me anything I'm on here most days and will help if I can. Paul
Well you've made a start so well done. My tip would be don't think of the 4 stone you need to loose but break it down into small chunks with small acheivable goals your more likely to stick with it. Good luck
