Time for a change!
Hi Kezzababylon,
I'm sure you will get some good tips from here as there are some amazing people who are good with food plans, I'm rubish at planning meals to suit everyone. At least I only have to plan for my partner and myself. But I have to try and keep weight on him and off me! So I'm still learning how to balance this as I can't seem to find the same meal that suits both. As my partner is not a big eater so not easy.
Good luck with balancing!
Hi thanks sheepdogs, need all the help I can get! Unfortunately my partner is a foodie and my daughter is a picky eater lol so have my work cut out I feel!
Hello Kezzababylon and welcome to the forum.
It would certainly appear that you do have a challenge upon your hands, by attempting to balance your own ambitions against the desires of your husband and daughter.
However, by seeking to reduce your overall calorie intake, in addition to ensuring that kitchen cupboards and fridge/freezers are stocked with sources of lean protein, complex carbohydrates, non-starchy vegetables and unsaturated fat, as opposed to those high in refined carbohydrate (cakes/sweets/pastries) and saturated fat (fatty or processed meat), you should hopefully be able to satisfy the needs of all concerned, while improving health in the process.
The changes donโt need to be drastic either. By simply replacing or reducing the consumption of white rice, bread, pasta and potatoes, in favour of wholemeal varieties, for example, you should still be able to largely satisfy individual needs.
Again, to make healthier alternatives more appealing, flavouring is key. As such, by adding a stock cube to rice as it cooks or oven roasting sweet potatoes, cherry tomatoes, kale and beetroot tossed in olive oil with garlic and a little rock salt, for example, you may just succeed in your quest to make healthy food more appealing, helping to ensure that your own goals continue to be satisfied.
As for sweeteners, consider Stevia over that of sugar and maple or honey over golden syrup, while not discounting the use cinnamon, due to its stabilising effect upon blood glucose.
When it comes to breakfast ideas, by replacing ordinary versions of Special K or Weetabix with higher protein alternatives (see fuel10k.com for their range of cereals), or including eggs and porridge as breakfast options, you should rest a little easier knowing that everyone is heading out the door sufficiently nourished.
