What type of food do you like?

Personally I'd start by making the meals you like but making them a bit healthier.

HI Firetrap2012,

Welcome to the Weight Loss NHS forum. Have a look at the Welcome Newbie post, as there are some inspiring posts there, and also check out the Recipes in the Topics section, as well as in the NHS 12 week plan information on NHS Choices.

If you go to the Welcome Newbie post, it will help you to work out where things are - that is in the Pinned posts area - right-hand-side of the homepage, or at the bottom of the screen if you're accessing via a mobile device.

Have a great week.

Lowcal :-)

p.s. A link to a collated recipe post from past and current members is here:

Welcome to the forum. You are not alone in your feelings many people here joined because they felt unhappy with their weight so I do know how you feel. Try not to think of your weight loss goal in terms of an overall figure it can be quite overwhelming. Break it down into smaller goals e.g. I want to lose a lb next week. You have made a really positive first step forwards by joining the forum and every step forwards be it losing that first lb or resisting that first biscuit will make you feel better. Exercise is hard and again set smaller goals e.g. Trying to go for a walk each day. I wish you luck and success. Keep posting 😀

Hi firetrap

Well done for joining the site , you will get plenty of help and advice here for sure , I know it's not going to be an easy road but you can do it and we will alll help you .

Think like this

Plan your meals weekly then you are not thinking about what you are going to eat everyday pain in the butt I know but once you have done it , it will be worth it

Weigh everything count all your calories and cut down on your portion size

I use a children's plate plate looks full when I put my food on it and it helps me , DONT snak if you need to have some sliced carrots and cucumber in the fridge if you feel like something , throw away all the bad stuff in the house.

I find if there is bad stuff in the house I will nibble on it , if it's not there I can't have it , most of all drink plenty .

Try and do a little bit of walking even if it's just around the garden it all helps

You can do this love we are all here to help , good luck and thinking of you

Hi and welcome you have made the best start you could joining the forum it's the best thing I have done for myself in years.👍

Everyone has given you some tips to start with and pointed you in the right direction so just to say like yourself I couldn't even walk up an incline without my heart feeling like it was going to come out of my chest that was my turning point in May this year plus my son getting engaged and married in 2018. I don't want to be the fat mum on the photos.

You are now on the way down, next month with determination from yourself and encouragement & advice when you need it from the forum you can do this. My tips

Don't pressure yourself take it slowly.

Make easy small changes to your diet, cut out processed eat more fresh foods etc.

Drink at least 1-1.5 litres of water a day.

Just move/walk more as in my case I am upping my steps on the treadmill at home and maybe get a fitness tracker to help. My fitness pal on the net is free but I love my fit bit.

Download week 1 of the 12 week plan, log everything and fill it in so you n see how you're doing.

Set yourself small goals maybe half a stone/1 stone by end November and arrange a treat for yourself when you get there. ( hair cut, nails done, new top etc)

More than anything be active on here read others posts as there's so many inspiring people on here with a wealth of knowledge to help you. Ask for help if you need it plus if you find any good tips or recipes on the way etc let us know we all need help here and there.

So welcome to you and good luck on your new lifestyle give it a go I have found as the weeks go on the easier it is my weight loss is only about 1lb a week but that's 2 packs of butter and better off than on. By the way after only 5 months I can actually jog a bit now so if I can do it so can you.

Best wishes Bev ❤️️

I love a nice a spag Bol and lasagne

Also love everything that comes out of a jar

The trouble with the food in jars is that they tend to be full of sugar and other fattening things. Try making your own sauce, it's going to be better and cheaper.

I wouldn't have a clue in making any kind of sauce

Easy spag bol.. Dry fry a small pack of 5% fat mince. Add a chopped onion, teaspoon of lazy garlic, squirt of tomato purée, sprinkle of oregano and a veg stock cube. Let it all soften and then add a tin of chopped tomatoes. Let it simmer on a low heat. You can chuck in anything else to bulk it out eg mushrooms, chick peas or lentils. Serve with a jacket potato or wholemeal pasta. This can also be layered up as a lasagna. Xx
