Welcome to the forum. I am losing weight for my wedding despite the fact that my fiancé and I haven't set a date yet. I am following Slimming World but weighing in at my mum's instead of going to meetings because I am saving for my wedding and I am in the process of moving. I have lost 5 1/2 lbs in 4 weeks. I really like this forum and appreciate the support I get from other members as well as friends and family.
Welcome Mike.
The urgency is over now because you're here. Now it's time to relax, take stock and map out your plan.
moreless has supplied you with lots of information and pointers to lots more. If you do nothing else, read it and if you're anywhere near as slow as me, read it again.
I don't know how limiting your amputation leaves you but even without exercise it's possible to lose weight.
The next part of your journey shouldn't be a rush but a series of small planned changes and steps.
Stay in contact as there are lots of great, friendly and helpful people here who will support you through good times and bad.
Good luck!
Tiggerr is right, Mike. It's not exercise which will lose your weight (although exercise is healthy of course), it's sensible eating which will make it happen. So start planning your menus ( Hairy Dieters books are great for real food, all calorie counted - they should pay me, I recommend their books so often!)
Good luck!
Hi there
I have a physical disability that severely affects my mobility and ability to exercise. I also get a lot of pain, especially in my lower back, neck and shoulders.
However, at the ripe old age of 49 I decided that it was time to change things! I lost 2 stone without doing any exercise (through weighing out portions and logging food and calorie intake).
Losing weight is something like 80% of what you eat and 20% exercise (probably got those figures wrong, but you get the idea - what you eat and managing that has a bigger impact on weight loss!)
I then went on to start exercising on a regular basis, and this really helped with the pain.
There are a few informative and hopefully supportive posts I've written which you can find on my profile, but this particular one may help:
