I have decided to do something about my weight. I have weighed myself today and I'm 14st 13lb. I am ashamed but determined to lose weight every week until my knees and feet don't hurt anymore.

Never, ever say that you are ashamed of yourself. You must celebrate yourself for recognising that you want to weigh less and that you are going to do something about it. Be positive about you and you will be successful. I wish you the very best of luck as you start your journey. Xxx

I understand you so well, last Friday when I was at the doctors and I saw my shocking 90kg - over the years I gained nearly 30kg. I am so unhappy with myself - ashamed of my body and ashamed that I appear lazy to some people who look at me :( I hope you succeed - don't be too hard on yourself and most definitely don't give up after a bad day/week etc. :)

Hi there! :)

Well done on deciding to lose weight, I am sure you'll reap the benefits of a healthier life-style. :)

I remember the painful feet when I was at my heaviest, it was so bad some days I had to spend all day with my legs elevated. Horrible. Positive side is that since I have lost some much needed weight and changed my diet to include loads more fresh fruit, veg and low salt options my feet are soooo much better, I can stand much longer and my feet don't swell as much either. My knees do hurt occasionally, but that's when I've done hard impact sports like running and I have noticed my recovery time is much quicker than it use to be. :)

I really hope you enjoy it here and you find the solutions to your worries. :)

Good luck!!

Sazkia ♥

Hello Chunkerton 😊 Welcome to the Weight Loss NHS forum. It’s great that you’ve joined.

Take a look at the Pinned Posts section, to the right of your screen (bottom, if you're using a mobile) and have a look at the Welcome Newbies thread. 😊 In particular if you find your bmi this will suggest a daily calorie target, often more than you think 😊

Look at the Topics section beneath that, for posts that could answer any questions you may have. Consider joining any, or all, of our challenges, as they're fun and motivating. 😊

Join us for the Monday Group weigh-in. If you follow Lowcal and Moreless (our very approachable site Admins), you'll be notified when they post the threads. The latest weigh-in thread can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page. 😊 Also if you want a "newbie" badge they can help with that 😊

Be active on the forum, as that's where we exchange ideas and get our daily dose of motivation and inspiration.😊

Good luck!

So with you on that! When I was younger and the children were small (all grown up and left home) I was so much more active, but the pounds have gradually found homes all around my body and are reluctant to leave! So I have bad knees and am trying to lose weight, but it is a long journey. I am determined to get there though. I am setting myself little goals to aim for and gradually increasing my exercise. Good luck and stick with it!

Don't look at it as a journey but rather as a lifestyle change. When I first switched to whole healthy foods I would always ask myself when I would be able to eat pasta again because i started eating more protein and veg which i wasn't used to, I had problems with my blood sugar it was always on the lower side. Every meal left me sluggish, now I have accepted that i don't need pasta or refined carbs in my life to feel energised because vegetables do the trick. A journey has a destination and once you get there you see no need to continue going. This my dear is a life long commitment, you're marrying a healthier lifestyle. I wish you all the best!
